That’s ridiculous. You can apply a composite mode to a connected clip but that not when the clip’s in a secondary?
if you’re editing a project with music and narration, and a section of video is made into a compound clip. To edit the contents of the compound clip, you have to open it into its own timeline. You now no longer can hear the primary narration and music.
Secondaries are a great idea, but they have limitations, and there’s no easy way to step out of them.

That’s the delivery size, that’s not the production size. Video standards are standards. Those are the ones FCPX is designed to work it. It’s not a resolution independent application. You need FCP7 or earlier for that.

Actually no. The magnetic timeline ensures that everything downstream will be affected.
Secondary storyline is very limiting. Can’t have composite modes. Can’t add transitions to connected lips have to be converted to secondary. Can’t connect to secondary only to primary. If you make it a compound you have to open the compound to edit, then you lose the audio tracks in the main timeline. It’s one workaround after another.

You can only change your project properties to specific industry formats, and that isn’t one of them. It’s non-standard square pixel PAL. You probably want 720×576 anamorphic. That’s the closest that will work, sort of, with what you want to do.

I gave up years ago on Apple using industry standard nomenclature. They just make up whatever meaningless shit they want. You end up with things like offline have two different meanings in the same application.

There are 68 transitions in FCPX. There are two dissolves. However cross dissolve has controls, though I see additive, not non-additive, but there may be something similar.

What Mark said about importing exported files.
“My understanding is that there will be an Apple-provided utility for importing XML from older projects to Final Cut Pro X.”
In fact Apple has said quite the contrary. They have no plans for providing XML import and have said it can’t be done properly in their view. They will probably provide XML out at some stage.

ProRes is what FCPX works natively. QuickTime doesn’t mean anything. You’l have to specify exactly what codec you’re talking about. Most likely it will work, but FCPX is not QuickTime based.

FCPX will work with either DV or HDV media. Render files are useless to it.
