Hi Kara,

you could try exporting to another location. I regularly encounter problems when exporting to a network drive.

Or copy all elements in a new document, and try exporting again. Maybe copy element by element to find the one that is causing the problem.

Hi Lucas,

these things would be pretty straightforward in Indesign, but I have never tried to do anything like that in Illustrator.
I’d like to see if anyone ever has ☺

About the conditional formatting: I don’t think that would be possible. As far as I know Illustrator doesn’t “read” the data that it imports – it just enters the content and that’s it. I tried the same thing in Indesign a few times, to no success.

If anyone has a workaround I’d be very interested ????

this is a pretty easy effect in Photoshop actually ☺

Your text should be on a separate text layer when you add it. Then simply select “Difference” in the Opacity pulldown menu when selecting the layer.

Hello Mike,

I’m not quite sure how the colour profile can be important when you need something printed in foil. It’s the colour of the foil that determines the colour anyways, no matter which profile has been applied.

However, it is important that your image exists of only 1 colour (I usually take a spot colour). Probably your image is in a composite colour (eg. 20% C + 75% M + 10% K) and that cannot be used to foil print.
If that’s the case you should try to convert your logo into 1 (spot)colour.

Maybe the problem only occurs in certain conditions or with a certain character combination. This is probably due to a glitch in the kerning tables (This often happens with free fonts).

If you’re on a Mac you can have Font Book validate the font to see where the problem lies (open Font Book and right click on the font to “Validate Font…”) Not sure how that works on Windows ☹

Best thing to do now is try to find a better copy, or replace the font with another one – if that’s an option.

I guess you are working with the drop caps settings – maybe try to turn that of for now and check results?

Hi David,

did you try “Edit colours” under the Edit menu?
You need to select something first and then go to Edit > Edit colors… > Recolor Artwork…

Selecting only the reds should work with selecting one red element first, and then go the Select > Same >Fill & Stroke (or Fill color, what suits your selection best).

Hi Ahmed,

not quite sure what the correct workflow should be. I make a lot of designs for tradeshow booths but they are never larger than 4m. So I never really encountered this problem.
I’m guessing upscaling is the best idea. The resolution for these later prints usually is lower than normal print quality so when you save your images on a high enough resolution the print quality should remain reasonable when upscaling.
If it’s vector only, it won’t matter much ????

Please let me know what worked for you – I have a booth of 6m long coming up in September. ????

Hi Chris,

is your resolution set high enough? Anything under 150dpi will look blocky (300dpi usually does the trick).
And what do you mean with “way too big in adobe reader” – is the page size off? You can check the actual page size under File>Properties…

Or does it just show a part of the page when you open the file.
I don’t think there is an option in Photoshop to make PDF files display as “fit to window” by default.

Then THIS is what you need:

simply click on the (very) small cogwheel on the top right of the brush panel and pick whatever option you prefer. The top screenshot you posted probably only has the “brush tips” selected.
