Bob,
I think Craig was saying:
Sony LCDs branded LMD – truly awful.
FSI – good value for price, but not full CRT replacement.
Sony LCDs branded PVM – good, but much more expensive than FSI, and therefore an unfair comparison.
Craig works in environments (live broadcast television trucks, the 53′ expando kind, not a SAT truck) where there are dozens of monitors in his work space, and he is responsible for color matching multiple cameras in real time.
His standards are different and generally higher for monitoring than most of us, as his work environment requires it.

Hi Todd,
We had two programs that needed captioning last year and we used CaptionMax. It was a very good experience. They were comfortable explaining the process, options and fees, and delivered with a tight turn-around.
Our contact there was Susan Schneider.

Try breaking your project into several smaller projects and see if the problem persists.
Large project files can cause the behavior you describe.

Step two shows a picture of a four pin firewire port. It is likely that this is the port marked DV on your camera. Ignore the stuff about iMovie further down.
In FCP make your easy set-up DV NTSC. This will set things so that FCP is looking to the firewire port for a deck or camera.
You can buy six pin to four pin cables online. Just google it.

I would go send the file to Soundtrack Pro, then read up in
Help > Soundtrack Pro Manual
on using noise print to reduce noise.
Or read this article:

Firewire is going to give you the best results.

This might help – I often find video tutorials to help me “get” a feature.

Markers are not the strong suit of FCP.
You can’t get a list of sequence markers in FCP.
This is a bummer, and has been complained about for a long time.
When you add markers to a clip that is in the browser you get a carot next to it that allows you to see a list. Unfortunately, this is not currently the case with sequences.

April 26, 2009 at 3:23 pm in reply to: How to break up media file into smaller files based on subclipsShort answer:
FCP will have no problem dealing with a single 3.6 GB file.
Long answer:
The media manager has several different ways of breaking things up. Look at the manual on the media manager. The manual does a pretty good job of explaining the options.
It will likely become clear after several minutes of reading why it is not behaving as you want it to.

I have FCS 2 on a G4 1.67 Mac Book.
Final Cut is fine.
Motion is too slow for anything but basic lower thirds.
DVD Studio Pro is fine.
Compressor is so slow as to be almost unusable for anything longer than five minutes.
Color, of course, does not work, or even install.
DV works very well. HDV and other long GOP formats are painfully slow.
If you are working in those formats in FCS 1, and are getting acceptable performance, I suspect you will still be OK with FCS 2.
