As a last resort, or a trouble shooting technique, go to the Capture Settings tab and change device control to Non=Controllable Device. Then use capture now.

IO is a generic term for an input output interface.

A capture card allows input output functionality for a computer.

Here is some context:

AJA sells capture cards (under the brand KONA) that have an optional K-Box. This is a rack mountable set of connections. If you don’t buy this box, all the connectors come off the back of the card as a bundle of short cables.

This K=Box is what many would refer to as a an IO box, or panel.

AJA sell another line of products that use a firewire interface under the brand IO. These IO products are also IO boxes.

$100.00 is probably not enough to purchase a video tripod that you will be happy with.

What format are you going to be capturing? Drive speed is the first limiting factor.

You need an external firewire drive, at the least.

If you will be capturing via firewire you will need an express card to add a firewire bus. All the built-in firewire connections are on one bus.

HDV will work on an external firewire drive. IMHO editing HDV is frustrating if you are doing anything with complexity. Your mileage may vary.

DVCPro HD will work on fast external firewire drives.

Log and Digitize?

Allow two and a half eight hour days if the seven tapes are 60 minutes each.

Could be more depending on the type of production, the style of the shooter, how short the selects need to be, the clarity of the direction the editor received, other stuff.

Could be less too.

Go generators menu (the A button in the lower right hand corner of the Viewer.)

Choose shape > rectangle.

Edit this onto layer two, above the original shot,

Dupicate the original shot on layer three.

Apply a guassian blur to layer three.

Right click layer three and choose composite mode travel matte luma.

Double click shape on layer two and use the contols tab and motion tab in the viewer to distort and keyframe the shape to blur out the map.

If you need more motion tracking than you care to do by hand, take this project over to Motion 3, or After Effects.

Change the Viewer sync to Open. The clip in the Viewer will track the clip you are parked on in the Time line or Canvas.

The sync is the center button on the top ot the Viewer. The Icon looks like two golf tees.
