Well, the answer to “what kind of a company?” is actually pretty simple. A TV station. Speed and consistency are important especially when time tables are not. These stations are used for production and not news editing. Everything from programming to promos to commercials are cut at the computers. There is a fair amount of rotation of editors involved and having each station as similar as possible to the others is a big plus. That’s why the upgrade to the older system is happening in the first place. It’s not easy to retrain the entire staff on a new platform while meeting tight deadlines at the same time.

If this was a start up, Premiere or Avid would make sense. Unfortunately, this is simply an upgrade to one of the older edit stations here. New computer to replace an older G5 running FCP 5.1 still. All of the other stations are running FCP7 still and I’d like to have the option of any editor going to any edit station and start cutting with a minimum of hassle. Corporate might need to bend the rules a bit this time and entertain other options.

It could show us as a blueish cast over the picture. Possible cause it to look a bit washed out. Usually a clear UV filter can eliminate the problem. A circular polarizer can help as well.

If the cameras are not broadcast units with a reference (Genlock) input, you will need to use a switcher with build-in frame syncs on the inputs. This will eliminate the need for synchronizing your cameras. As for matching, some switcher will offer a Processing Amp feature to match the cameras. Otherwise, you will need to spend some time matching the cameras through the controls on the cameras. Use the same white balance reference under the same lighting conditions for a start. The rest is tweaking the cameras until they match as well as possible.

OK, I’ll bite. IR contamination? I’ve seen UV effects on video but IR? The only IR filters I’m familiar with are used in still photography and are nearly opaque. Most if not all professional video cameras ( and still cameras for that matter) have an IR cut filter in place over the CCD blocks to stop IR from hitting the sensors. To shoot using IR, most cameras need to have the IR cut filter actually removed.

Is the menu made from a frame of video you imported into Photoshop? If so, did you deinterlace? You won’t see this while in Photoshop, but it will be noticeable when the graphic is brought into DVDSP.

If you have the full Studio 3 suite installed, you already have many sound effects available on your computer right now. Quite a few effects get installed with the Soundtrack program. Do a find on a particular effect and see what might already be there.
