The AJA Gen10 is capable of outputting both “normal” and Tri-Level sync. You might consider using its dual outputs and sending each to a DA for distribution to your various pieces of equipment. Do you have equipment that actually requires Tri-level sync? If so, it should be happy with the Gen10 signals. I’m running one in a remote truck and it works well.
Unless you have a number of “islands” of equipment, you are generally better off running the same reference to everything. You can’t go wrong with everything locked to a common reference.
If you need something other than simple Black Burst, you might want to consider a more capable sync generator that is capable of a wider variety of output signals, although there isn’t as much of a demand for signals like horizontal drive, vertical drive or blanking as there used to be.Not my monkeys. You will need a card that can accept component analog signals from the Betacam deck. Black Magic Design and AJA both make good products for just this purpose.Just go to their respective web sites and check out their products. There are many more companies that make converters but these two are the most popular.

I use a Leader LV7330 rasterizer in our remote truck. Works well and is a bit less expensive than the others. Otherwise Tektronix and Harris all make good products. It just depends on your budget and your needs.

If using Compressor, you can create Droplets from any of the compression settings in the main program. All you need after that is to just drop the file you want to compress onto the Droplet.

Nucomm has several units that will encode SDI to ASI.I’ve been running a NewsCoder 4 in a remote truck for several years now with very good results.

It’s old school but you can also try putting a large sheet of 85B color correcting gel over the face of the monitor. Wide rolls of the stuff are available. It’s usually used to bring down the color temperature of outdoor windows when shooting inside at 3200K. Get the non neutral density version otherwise it will cut down the brightness of the monitor too much.

FCP also has a built in filter called Strobe that will enable you to reduce the frame rate without affecting the time. Just set it to whatever frame rate looks good to you.

Is the “Older” machine a G5 by chance or not that old?

Go to the Editing tag in User Preferences. You can set the duration there.
