If you need to control the deck, you will need a capture device that has an RS-422 port or you will need a serial adapter such the Keyspan you mentioned. It looks like your Sony converter has a LANC connector in the back. I believe that the UVW series of Beta decks had a LANC connector in the front of the deck for using simple jog/shuttle controllers. I’m going from memory and it’s been a while… Might be worth a try.

Why not use a couple of small UPS supplies that you probably have around already. Just plug the power supplies for the cameras into the UPS’s and you’re good to go even in case of a total power failure. The KiPros would need a power source as well, so renting them would not really solve your problem, just move then to a different piece of equipment. The KiPros can easily corrupt a recording in the case of a power glitch just as the cameras would.

Can you provide a little more information? What format is the signal from your cameras? What format are you recording in? What are you recording on? What format are you sending through the RG6 cable-SD or HD? Analog or digital? How are you delivering to the cable system?
BE aware that the cable company is going to further compress your video when it’s inserted into their system. Depending on that amount of compression, it can have a huge affect on the look of the delivered video. Grass, leaves or running water have a large amount of detail information which is often lost during compression. When it goes into the cable system it will be compressed again resulting in mush when the video has a lot of detail.E=MC2+/-2db

Just an observation. I’m always mystified by the fact that so many people feel compelled to load up a new version of OS just because it’s it’s there and it’s new and shiny. Unless it offers some new feature(s)that we just can’t live without, why upgrade? If your system is working and stable, why mess with it? I use my system for a business and I can’t afford to take the chance of breaking it just for the sake of some tiny feature that is perceived as a must have. If it’s working, why mess with it? My 2 cents worth.

When you disengage the zoom clutch under the lens, does it move freely? If so, there is a misalignment between the servo box and the lens or a problem with the servo/gear train itself. If it’s still difficult to zoom the lens with the clutch released, the problem is with the lens barrel itself. There’s probably not a lot you can do to repair it yourself. A trip to a qualified lens repair place is probably in order.

It’s just a joke on Einstein’s famous formula for energy and matter conversion which is considered to be an exact constant with the joke of +/-2db (meaning it’s NOT exact) thrown in for fun. No reference to any place or company in particular. Just a nerd joke.
I go back way before 3/4″ tape. Let me think on it for a while and see what I can come up with.

Do these videos get edited after shooting? If so, why not simply record your wireless on channel one and your shotgun on channel two and use the appropriate track when editing. Otherwise, can you use a small mixer to switch between the channels on the fly?
