There is a simple way that I do it. I select my bin and set it up so I hide any comumns that I don’t need. Then export it as a batch list. I then open this file up in Excel and print it from there. Really quick and easy way to print out a bin.

If you have a travel matte on the tape with the graphic, place your background on V1, your matte on V2 and your “fill” video clip on V3. Then just change the alpha type (composite mode) on V3 to “travel Matte-alpha”. It should work.
Hmmm… or is it change the composite mode on V2…
Er, actually you might want double check this. I’m going from memory right now and after 50 the memory just ain’t what it used to be…
At any rate, check the manuals. It can be done and it works well.

Steve, do you have any more information about the HD XDCam demo in Chicago on Aug. 1st? I’m up in Green Bay and would be able to attend.

If you are referring to the software for importing HD XDCam files directly into Final Cut, I don’t think it’s shipping yet. I believe there are beta test copies floating around, but I don’t think the final version is available yet. I’m waiting for it as well. Anyone out there by chance know a time frame for this software?

The meters in FCP are representing digital levels with 0DbFS being the highest reading possible. You mixer is most likely showing analog levels with 0Db being considerably less level than 0Db on the digital scale. -20Db on the digital scale (depending on your reference) is about the same as 0Db on your analog mixer. 0Db on your FCP meters would be about +20Db on your analog mixer, considerably higher than it should be in the analog world.
So basically, athough the units on both scales are the same (Db) the reference points for digital scales and analog scales are very different. The levels you mentioned in your post actually sound about right.

I did talk to the Apple/Sony guys out at the NAB convention a few weeks ago about the upcoming software for importing files from the disk, and while it looks good on paper, I will need to turn this project in the next month or so. Can’t wait for the software plugs right now. My plan is to capture thru a Kona3 card via HD SDI. I take it from the above post that the DVCPro100 codes works OK for this? How about the 24P frame rate? I assume tht it will add pulldown frames to a standard 29.97 timeline? You know what happens when you assume, don’t you? The DP wants the “film look” to this spot so 24P it is. Also as for color grading, any suggestions? It should be a simple spot with minimal CC necessary. “Should be” being the key operative phrase here.
We will shoot on the 350 version of the camera. It was good timing for this since that is the camera we are most likely to purchase to replace our aging fleet of Digibeta camcorders. I’m excited to see just what this camera can do. Also just a bit worried since it is different than what we are used to dealing with. We will have the camera for a week and plan on putting it thru it’s paces while here.
