Meanwhile Im sitting here editing and having the time of my life with software I never thought I would use. CS5 (specifically PP and AE) is a true pleasure to create with. I think its what I hoped FCP X would be.
Familiar, fast and fun.Ive reached the point where all posting begin to sound like “blah, blah,blah”.
If you cant enjoy what you are doing, you are doing the wrong thing.Then its time to move on. I did and Im glad that door opened.

Very nice summation Chris. It reflects my perception of the situation as well. As an editor that needs to integrate motion graphics into my work, I have ventured into the CS5.5 realm and am pleased with its versatility and power. Using PP and AE dynamically linked is a treat.
Adobes desire to communicate and listen is nothing short of refreshing. All clips native on timelines makes me more competitive with my workflow and turn around. Im experiencing just the tip of the iceberg with all the new enhancements and functionality, but Im smiling while I edit and thats a very good sign.Tom Daigon

Probably a REAL good idea to try it before you buy it.
Avid is widespread and says “Professional” to lots of folks, but I know many of FCP folks made the jump and were quite unhappy. Its GUI not as sophisticated and flexible as FCP 7 was. Its only 32 bit.Its a very proprietary system no easily accessible to third party solutions.
I know it has the rep as Hollywoods baby, but after 5 years of Media Composer and 12 of Avid DS, it will be a cold day in hell before I ever went back. Each to their own.

You are asking good detailed technical questions to a primarily FCP 7 audience considering options like you are. While some may have experience with these products, I suggest you pose these questions in Avid and Premiere forums where the level of familiarity with products is probably much higher.
Todd Kopriva at the Adobe forum is very knowledgeable.

I worked with MC for 6 years and Avid DS for 12 years. I swore after experiencing FCP that it would be a cold day in hell before I ever went back to Avid. Your experience may differ from mine.
