Tom, I believe this recently changed with the release of the new Kona drivers last week. It was true that the GPU benefits did not use to work when in an AJA preset timeline, because the AJA drivers didn’t take advantage of it. But AJA rewrote the drivers.

I certainly hope that is the case with AJA. If not I have confidence in their ability to institute it. 😉

You need to find your way thru the standard robot choices and will end up at what sounds like a call center in India, but the guy I spoke to knew his stuff!

That would be great news to my ears. But the question is, does the CUDA still do its MPE functions when I am using a AJA preset sequence, since that is required for displaying the Kona video on an external monitor?

No the case with Kona according to Adobe tech support. In the prefs menu is the “Player” option. You choose either Adobe or AJA. When using Kona 3 you must use one of their preset sequence choices or it will not display thru their system. If you build a regular sequence to use the CUDA card, it will NOT display thru the Kona. This is all new to me so Im just reporting things as I bump into them.

Bob, in contrast I spent about an hour with a crack Adobe tech troubleshooter trying to isolate some playback issues with Premiere Pro 5.5 and Kona 3.
He linked to my computer and watched my screen as we both went step by step thru a process to try and isolate the problem. He was knowledgeable, patient and FREE. All I could think about the experience afterward was…”Id never get this kind of service from Apple OR Avid.”

I would like to know how the Kona 3 and Nvidia 4000 work in Premiere Pro 5.5. Doe the Nvidia only affect the display on the Mac monitors?Does it support 2 monitors like my ATI Radeon 3875? Does the the Kona only affect the video going to the external monitor? And what is happening with the MPE in this setup?

One more question, Todd. Bare Feats did some benchmark tests and got great results using the Nvidea Quadro 4000 as a slave card. They described this setup as using the ATI Radeon card hooked up to display and the Nvidea Quadro 4000 occupying another PCIE slot, not hooked up for display. Just number crunching.

The results were amazing. Are you familiar with this concept and can you refer me to any info that can elaborate on this type of setup? (I have a early 2008 Mac Pro with 8 gigs and a ATI Radeon 3870 card.)

That info might be superseded by the new Adobe plugin drivers. I havent confirmed that with AJA. Give them a call and let us all know.
