Thanks you Alex that was great.

Now tell me why you do this. It seems this method avoids having me physically importing the AE rendered movie and dropping on the timeline.

    What are the other benefits?

  • Chris “CUDA works just fine in the BMD timeline.

I read somewhere that there are some advantages to using the card vendor timeline.
wish I remembered where I read it. I’d post it for you.

I just started a new client project today.
    sony NXCAM avchd.

I’ve started editing that in an AVCHD instead of BMD and it works just as well.”

Chris Im a little confused. From my experience testing and using PrP CS6 there are only 1 kind of sequence that works with Adobe Transmit and third party capture cards and that is the regular Adobe sequence.Granted I use AJA which doesn’t have any AJA specific sequence anymore.

I guess in your case there are 2 since for some reason BM still provides a BM sequence in addition to the new Adobe standard sequence.

There are no other variants. Sure you can specify what codecs / formats / frame rates you want in the sequence. But I dont believe that has anything to do with the new Adobe sequence structure and how it works in conjunction with Adobe Transmit. 😀

Hey Alex Im still very interested in hearing more about your AE / Proxy workflow with PrP.

If you get a moment, a step by step break down (like 1…2…3…) of what you do would be helpful. Its sounds intriguing but Im not clear of exactly what you are doing .

  • Chris, why why would you use the BM timeline when its unnecessary and prevents you from taking advantage of CUDA (if you have a graphics card that supports it)? I dont understand the logic.

  • Not a fan of BMD. AJA Kona 3 is my choice.

  • DO NOT USE BM TIMELINES WITH CS6! 😀

If you have the latest drivers for your BM device, Adobe Transmit (new to CS6) lets you use regular Adobe sequences from now on.You get great performance and CUDA if you have a graphics card that supports it.

Transmit is hidden and a part of the software in CS6. Its a real break through in timeline playback performance.

  • I had the same problem fixed by selecting RGB (NOT 709) in the DNxHD codec selection box when I chose it as the way I wanted to export. Problem cleared up immediately!

To be honest I am not following the work flow.Probably because I almost never use proxies.

If you get a moment, a step by step break down (like 1…2…3…) of what you do would be helpful. Its sounds intriguing but not clear at the moment.

Ive been using CS6 (AE / Dynamic Link / Warp Stabilizer) without problems for the last 6 months.

Lots of issues have been resolved since CS5.

  • [Shane Ross] “. Delete temp render files before you do this (I hear you need to do that)…that way the original media gets referenced, not the render files, that might be MPEG-2.”

Unless you check “Use Preview Files” when Exporting a sequence (not to be confused with rendering which is mostly done when its necessary to see your timeline playback and it cant due to effects or other reasons) you DO NOT have to delete your preview files. They are only used when that box is checked. You can in certain cases shorten your export time by selecting a Preview File Codec like Prores or DNxHD, then rendering those portions of the TL that need it AND check the Use Preview Files in the Export GUI.When exporting these renders files will be used.

Also, there is a small select bunch of codecs that can take advantage of Smart Rendering in CS6 (where files are just copied , not regenerated frame by frame as in the process Exportinga timeline). It limited to files with no effects, Heres a quote from Adobe literature.

    “Smart rendering
Quickly export unaltered media in your sequences using Smart Rendering, which supports XDCAM MPEG-2 in an MXF wrapper, DV HDV, and DVCPRO formats.”
