It does sound like the 4GB file size limit. Could you export to a local HFS+ drive first and then copy the file to the NAS? I’ve seen the same problem when exporting PJPEG AVIs to be used in Windows Media Encoder.

I’d probably go with Photoshop for this and you have that, I see. Make a text layer. Duplicate it. Merge lower layer down to a new blank layer so that it’s rasterized. Flip it vertically. Use Edit/Transform/Distort to make the shadow layer go the direction you want and expand to the degree that you want. Use the Effect/Blur/Lens Blur filter to make the shadow layer sharp when close to the text and fuzzier the further it gets from the text. Photoshop’s Help tells how to use a gradient channel to do this. Adjust transparency to taste. Is that the effect you’re looking for?

I’ll probably deliver both 4:3 and anamorphic SD NTSC and let UK folk convert as needed. No access to HD VTR until later, so it won’t be an issue. Again, thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.

I assume that if I deliver NTSC, it will be standards converted to PAL in the usual manner with a hardware device–Snell & Wilcox or the like. Is HD converted in a similar way? How does a slow-down happen? I’ve never had complaints about my footage being slowed down by 17%.

Thanks for the clarification. Now that you mention it, I have the vague impression that I don’t get that almost all-out CPU monitor readout with F4Mac compression.
Is Baz re-rendering effects that are already rendered by using the Quicktime Conversion method or does that method use the existing renders and just compress to the chosen codec?

How about you set up a quick cluster with four instances and then export a QT Reference movie out of FCP and then drop that into Compressor and submit to the quick cluster? That takes advantage of all your existing effects renders and the multiple processors, doesn’t it?

In the recent past, I would also import PPT to Keynote and then export tifs or video from that because Keynote output smooth fonts while exports from PPT were jaggy. But I think the newest version of PPT has good fonts on exports. I believe you can set up PPT to output a larger file size by changing the slide show setup. That could allow you to zoom in on parts of slides. Also, new version can export PDF. Think of the options in Motion with that route.
Still, these conversions are always a compromise because the slide was not designed for video.

I would be comfortable going with David’s recipe. It will be right in the zone we want with data rates and quality. Plus, it totally takes care of certain techie issues that you don’t EVEN want to open up.
The only question I have is the size. Is that size still larger than the final size of the video on the final site? If so, and I suspect it is, then it’s a real safe way to go.
To answer Ellen’s questions about my audio suggestion, here’s what my QT Conversion summary would say about sound:
Sound:
Format: AAC
Sample rate: 44.100 kHz
Channels: Mono
Bit rate: 48 kbps (Low end would be 32, high end would be 128 kbps)
