Just set it to subtract and play around with start/end values to achieve result you are looking to have.

Its either:
Start: 100
End: 0

And you animate End 0..100, or vice versa.

Other way, is to keep Start 0, End 100, and animate offset from -100..100. That way you would get fadeIn & fadeOut with a single controller.

got it, thanks. I just replaced placeholders with custom images and can confirm the following:
1. The transition doesn’t work when adjustment layer is kept in pre-comp and added in the other composition on top of layers.
2. The lightness of visuals drops down significantly only due to the motion blur effect.
3. The same happens on CC 2019, disregarding whether there are images or vectors below the transition layer comp.

My presumption – just like some other effects, it simply doesn’t work with collapse transformation applied. And without it – its impossible to bypass the settings applied on the adjustment layer.

Not the most beautiful workaround – but seems like images has to be added inside the transition comp and be duplicated for each use case. Unless someone can shine a different perspective into this.

Hey Dan, what would you recommend for cases, when there are two, identically named comps? (Apart from not making two identical names, hehe!) By default it picks up the first one in the project items array.

Wouter – since you mentioned rigging as the process where you would use this feature.. If not used already, I strongly recommend to consider this tool: https://aescripts.com/joysticks-n-sliders/

Its great by all means and functionality of adding keyframes by a single button click is there too.

Hey Razvan, try effect ‘Radio Waves’. It should give you the effect you want to achieve, as it accepts masks for wave type.

Just create a solid, paste the mask, select it in the effects params and see how it goes.

At least you wouldn’t need animating this plainly by hand. And by a chance of some controls tweaking and multiple bursts of effect from the same point, it might get you there.

Totally agree. What helps in relation with a stroke width though – applying a bit of tracking to selected/highlighted portion of text, which allows to give some breathing space.

Hey Andrei,

this is a great reference, thanks! One thing though – I suspect that through 3rd party applications, there is no way to access objects data models, nor debug with breakpoints? In other words, this could be a reliable only for experts.

Not sure about you guys, but for me on Win Extendscript is even slower than on Mac. Most often I have to interchange between ☺
