under the final cut pro menu go to system settings.
make sure your settings all match (your external drive) including waveform cache/thumbnail cache/ and autosave vault (normal situation, I keep this on my harddrive, but we’re trouble shooting here)
The setting for your situation will be to make sure your video render is going to the external drive.
looking at my system settings now, it appears that your probably fine here, unless you have unchecked or manually changed these settings. Which leads me to think changing the other cache & vault probably wont help your render situation.
Probably comes down to different systems having different os and/or qt.
You may want to consider upgrading fcp to current version.getting the right combination of fcp, os and qt is becoming an art form, and some combinations may not be stable. So only upgrade when your confident you have the right stuff.
Not sure if this will help, but there it is

also (assuming dv) try to put your sequence in a different codec, like dv50 or uncompressed.
Do you also have “jaggies” or is the color just “fuzzy”?
If DV, I would assume you have what I would describe as jaggies (not smooth edges), and dv50 could minimize it.Where is this video going to be shown?
Are you looking at an external broadcast monitor or your computer? -
I seem to remember older versions of FCP having issues as you described.
Not sure if an upgrade would solve your render problems.Have you double checked to see that everything is going to the external?
Its weird that your laptop continues to see the render, but another computer doesn’t. That makes me think that maybe something may be on your laptop and not the external.
Are you using the same fcp, os, and qt versions on both computers?
That could possibly cause some issues.I have had similar results, but I’ve also had many instances where the render files followed the project just fine.
So I know that it IS possible to maintain the render files. -

September 4, 2008 at 2:19 pm in reply to: OT: MobileMe or alt’s to send approvals to client?I use xprove.com. It is a small monthly few (based on space needed), but it allows you to customize the interface with your logo. Clients can stream or download video (and files) and also post comments (which can include timecode markers).
I have had one client say he had troubles, but I think it may have been operator error, all my other clients, several from 4 different companies, have been able to view download with no trouble.

September 3, 2008 at 3:53 pm in reply to: upgraded to AJA IoHD6 and now my monitor has annoying flickerI email AJA Support for my specific problem and below is what they sent back.
Don’t think this helps your situation, but it does give another step to uninstall that I wouldn’t have done.
Seems Gary may be onto something regarding uninstall/reinstall.
They were very rapid on their response. Have you tried AJA email Support (aja.com)?From AJA support…….
Sorry to hear this. You can revert back by running the IOHD uninstaller
then go to the Mac Library>Receipts folder and delete any IOHD .pkg files.Just want to know, Did the IOHD get fully restarted including the Mac
after the software/firmware update?
What video formats are you working with? -

September 3, 2008 at 1:57 pm in reply to: upgraded to AJA IoHD6 and now my monitor has annoying flickerJust fired it up again, to see if I could get some more information to post.
Started poking around in the control panel.I noticed that my playback timing setting was on video in, and I don’t have a deck connected, so I changed it to “freerun” and VIOLA……that was it!!!
I don’t remember this setting in the previous version, is that just cause I had “set it and forget it”?
Or is this a new feature “playback timing”? I notice too a horiz and vert timing controls.I feel MUCH better now.
Phillipe, I don’t think that this would help your situation, due to your description, but I found it in the IoHD Control Panel/Control/Playback Timing/Genlock

September 3, 2008 at 1:45 pm in reply to: upgraded to AJA IoHD6 and now my monitor has annoying flickerHey Gary,
Not sure what information would help, but here is my setup.
MacPro 3GHz octo
AJA IoHD
Panasonic LH1700W
Lacie BIGGEST RAID
Firmtek enclosure RAIDWorking mostly with footage from P2 cards at 720p, but also notice it with dv footage.
Heck, my monitor even flickers if I send it a bars FROM the AJA itself. As mentioned before, this was introduced immediately after upgrading to 6.0 and performing the firmware upgrade.
What else would you need to know to be able to help?

I worked on it all day, completed project, surfed the cow, found new update, downloaded (ran disk utility before and after) and installed upgrade, updated firmware.Anyone from AJA monitoring this forum????

I’m not sure about them existing on the same system, but I do know that they each have very different file structure, and therefore don’t necessarily play nice with each other.
It sounds as if you would like to mix and match, and I don’t think its that easy.
At the very least you will want Automatic Duck. A third party program that makes going from one system to the other MUCH easier. I think you may need 2 different versions, one on the FCP side and one on the AVID side. Its my understanding that very basic, cuts only type stuff, may make the transition between the two systems, but if that is the case, it would seem to make more sense to stick with just 1 of the 2.
I.E. why not stay within AVID, or FCP for all editing. As mentioned on the cow often, there really isn’t much need anymore to “offline”. Choose a system and stick with that from start to finish.Just my humble opinion

P2 Store is one option. Also contains a harddrive or can be used to injest directly from the cards
