sounds like you did it correct, so it
could be as simple as a dirty head on the deck.

Have your engineer clean the heads (or if you dare use a cleaning cassette).

I’d just try it again.
I assume you have the deck handy, therefore you should be able to switch back and forth on the timecode display and see if they match.

I like the “stickies” suggestion and have seen it on many other forums.
Most have a heading similar to “READ THIS FIRST”

I totally agree with the google response, I usually start any research with a google search, and many times it leads me to the cow, but not always.

On another note, Shane’s stock answers are the bomb! I did not intend to minimize their awesomeness!
Remember that they weren’t always available to “stumble across”, they came as copy/paste answers, which has been noted as potential to ruffle feathers, even though his intentions were VERY honorable.

Again, I thank the cow gods for posters like Shane (and MANY other…you know who you are) who take the time to help people out with problems that seem to encompass their whole world, but others regard as rookie, or newbie mistakes.

I think you missed the spirit in which my original post was intended. Thus furthering my thoughts that sometimes written word can be misinterpreted.

I never said that the posters were being rude, only that it may be perceived that way.
And judging by Shane’s response, it has.

I do expect a little give and take.

As I mentioned I have been helped by searching MANY times, and I shout “long live the cow!” OFTEN to my friends.
I for one, tire of seeing the same questions asked, but equally tire of the answer “to do a search.” I like Walter’s constructive suggestion to start a FAQ.

I’m merely trying to spark a discussion that makes the process easier, with less possibility of inadvertently demeaning someone who has (in their mind) a legitimate question.

this actually solidifies my point that posts are sometime taken differently than they are meant.
I know that no one is a meanie, but sometimes the coldness of a short, direct post can give that impression.

i just read one of Walter’s recent posts, and I think it was great. He suggested a search, and that questions has been asked a lot.
THEN, he answered the question.

This is a great possible solution.
As are Shane’s stock answers (forgot to mention that).

Even though all the documentation said otherwise, I tried to upgrade the firmware of the P2 Store from my edit mac.

All went well, successful update, 16GB card transfered properly, and now I can meet the deadline and get these cards packed and ready to go to Japan for a shoot.

I LOVE it when a plan comes together!

continuing to research, seems I might need to upgrade the firmware on the P2 Store. Client who owns it says that he already did it, but says it was a while back. Might need a newer firmware upgrade.
Damn Panasonic! I can’t do that from my intel based 8core.

Unfortunately I’m in a huge time crunch as the 16gb card in question is going to Japan tomorrow. So to solve my immediate problem, I’ll have to take it to client’s shop and transfer footage to a harrdrive, then onto my system.

I’d still like to hear from anyone who can shed some light on this.

This is a fairly common error message, for me anyway.

Try refreshing A/V devices (under view menu).

Make sure your device control and capture setting are correct.

closing the window, then re-opening sometimes works too.

I’ve never seen that myself, but I would guess your original video is 16×9 and your exporting to 4×3 and it is asking a basic “pan-and-scan” question (do you want me to use the left, right or center of the video to export so that I can fit into the aspect you’ve chosen?)

Again, I didn’t even know it did this as when I’ve been in similar situations, it just squeezes my 16×9 into a 4×3 box, which is very annoying.

Does this sound logical?
Give us some more info and we may be able to help better (timeline settings and such).
How are you exporting (quicktime conversion)?
