Thanks Rafael – it’s funny you mentioned that as that is exactly what I’m doing right now. Thanks for your response.

well I dropped back to 5.6.2 because even though I got Final Touch to launch, every time I tried to initialize the video output through the drop down box in setup (in Final Touch) FT crashes. I uninstalled 5.7.2, reloaded 5.6.2, trashed FT preferences, re-updated the firmware as requested, disabled desktop and now back to where I was before except FT still crashes trying to enable video output.

    I am running FT 2.6.1 on a dual 2.5g G5, 4.5 gig ram, NVidia GForce 6600

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

May 3, 2006 at 7:28 pm in reply to: AE blackmagic preview contrast/colors incorrect

My AE prefs are as follows: Under Preferences>Video Preview – Output Device>Blackmagic Video Output
Output Mode: Blackmagic NTSC – RGB (only other option is PAL)

    I am using AE7

I agree that it probably is an RGB/YUV color space issue but I don’t have any other options in the pulldowns and this is supposed to be correct. Sorry for the hassle.

On an unrelated note, I noticed for the last while my rgb monitor has drifted a little. It is a JVC TM-H150C using sdi. 50% gray has a slight green cast to it. I know I can bypass this through the menus but am unclear as to why it drifts through sdi at all. By the way, this is very subtle, my original color concerns are much more dramatic.

Hmm perhaps I wasn’t clear. The incorrect video levels I am seeing are when I am simply working in AE prior to rendering out. Just using the display output for my broadcast monitor to do my work the colors are incorrect. If I then render out what I am viewing and open that quicktime on the desktop and drag it to the broadcast monitor (as set up as an extended desktop) it looks correct. Take that rendered file and import it into AE and view it through AE display on the same monitor and it’s incorrect. So the problem is strictly limited to throughput through AE.

    Thanks for your help

There are only 2 options NTSC and PAL. It is set correctly on NTSC.

Hey dave – just saw your post – I am getting the green slug thing – it also affects my timeline and bars and on top of that – won’t let me output. Did you find a solution? I am running G5 dual 2 radeon 9800XT card with Blackmagic dual sdi

    Hey Robin

We just started work on an hdv production. We’ve got the 2.7 dual G5 with 2 20 inch monitors and a third 23 inch display for monitoring in Hi Def. The 23 is hooked to the computer via an HDLink box which gets its signal from the Blackmagic Decklink HD Pro dual card. The 23inch is all you need. It will display all the pixels of your hd signal. 30 would probably be overkill. We also have the Sony HDV deck for digitizing. You will need the dual card if you want to monitor your SDI output on the display and output SDI to a digiBeta deck. So far the editing has been fine. A few slowdowns here and there but not as doom and gloom as I expected. I was surprised to find out output to tape was not as easy however. Seems FCP needs to “conform” the timeline prior to output and on a half hour program this is an overnight deal. Not very handy. Haven’t worked with it too much so I don’t know how it handles it but I’m wondering about conforming the timeline and if I need to make a change if the whole thing needs to conform again. This is only necessary on a Edit To Tape function. Print to video is straight out – no conforming. But no locked code either. We may go this route, just do a wild print and then do a digibeta tape to tape insert at the proper code. Our external drive is a Lacie FW800, rated at around 75 mpbs, fast enough to do the job no problem.

As for broadcast monitor, this is what I’m looking for is a good crt display but they are getting harder to come by. Will keep you posted…
