Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy h264 weirdness

I am working with h264 material and have been searching everywhere for the solution to this problem – forgive me if it has been covered. I’m sure it must have.

My client has supplied project materials compressed with h264 (against my strong recommendation not to use this codec for editing). When I play my footage even in the source window it changes color space ie: black and gamma levels raise from when I am parked on a still. I have no idea which is the correct space or how to color correct this footage. In VLC it looks raised, in quicktime it looks “normal”

    OSX 10.4.11
    ATI Radeon X1900
    8-core

    Any help is appreciated.

The same than MPG2, H264 is not an editable format. They are delivery formats.
I’ve never tried, but I think that I would convert the footage to 8b or 10b Uncompress. if you go to DV25 or DV50 you will compress again pictures that have been already compressed a lot.
I do like that whenever I have to extract something from a MPG2. you can use Compressor.

Thanks Rafael – it’s funny you mentioned that as that is exactly what I’m doing right now. Thanks for your response.
