I’ve done this a bunch of times with ProTools, so I know it can work.
I don’t know how you’re checking that it’s alinged without FCP? But you might want to check the lenth by opening it in QuicktIme and get info and see the lenth. Also you should check the frequency rate. This SHOULDN’T affect the lenth, but it might be a problem.
You can also use QT to create a new audio file (with the correct frequency) and see if that fixes it.

And before anything reboot and restart.

Hi,

You would need to use a third-party software to do the translation between .avi and quicktime .mov
Cleaner & Flip4Mac are two that I know of. But you probably would need to pay for the software. Plus it take 2x-3x longer than digitizing the footage.

I’m curious about this??? This must be an urban myth??
I have AE 6.5 with Cycore right here (I can send you a picture of it on my Mac), so I don’t know why people think that it doesn’t? I believe it was a separate install with 6.5, but it was bundled. I wonder if people doing the installs weren’t paying attention to all the install components and that’s why people think it wasn’t bundled? I’ve only been paying attention to academic AE since 5.5, and it’s always been identical to the commercial version. Believe me, I would have noticed. The only time I can remember that Adobe left something off of an install or upgrade was Invigorator. I believe you didn’t get it if you upgraded. It needed to be a new full version.

I’ve always wondered about this…it would make sense that if Adobe was going to cut something for the academic version it would be this, but they don’t-which is VERY COOL.

Yes, it’s puzzeling, but if you’ve every seen the Adobe corporate building-they’re doing something right. 🙂
Plus, for me-being in an academic setting- I REALY appreciate the discounts since we don’t get any money for the production that we do.

Yes it’s still the same, so it will cost you $200 to upgrade from AE 6.5 to AE7.0, wether it’s educational or not.

Not to slam you Graham, but please make sure you know what you are talking about before you post.

The Educational Version of After Effects comes with EVERYTHING that the commercial version does! Yes Cycore is part of the install-has been since it was bundled with AE.

To be clear: the educational version of ALL Adobe products are identical to the commercial versions.

The educational versions are marketed to aspiring artists as well as organizations that operate in the academic environment. The design of academic discounts is for students and organizations that do not generate or intend to make any money by using their product.
If you buy the software through an academic discount and go on to use the product to make money, you are abusing the system.

I believe you’re ‘hosed’
AE doesn’t let you save to previous versions like Illistrator or Photoshop.

The only way I can think of that you can still work on the project would be to have ‘them’ give you a rendered movie file, that you then import into AE 6. But if you needed to work with the individual elements, that won’t work.

If you upgrade, at least it’s will be for a much improved product.

I’m not sure what you are going for????
‘lights’ can mean a lot of different things. Did you want it to look like a bunch of small ‘dots’ of light that can spin and move independantly? (kind of like if you were looking at a LED flashlight) Or do you want the ‘lights’ to move around and have the light shine on a surface/object? Or..???

If it’s dots, it’s pretty straightforward. If you need the light to shine onto something-a little trickier.

Either way, a good starting point will be Digital Anarchy’s 3D assistants. It will take whatever you give it-lights, pictures, balls, etc.- and can duplicate it to make a sphere, box, etc.

HI Karel,
You didn’t really give us enough information to help you.
Did you export the quicktime files as self-containted. Also make sure you are trying to import the quicktime movie into AE, not the motion project.
If you still have problems, post again with the step to take to export of Motion and into AE.
