    Hi Jim,

    Sometimes Boris is a little tricky. Check to see that you extended the keyframes within the Boris timeline. Often the Boris clip will go as long as you want, but within Boris, the keyframes don’t extend with it.

    You’re getting a little misinformation for what you’re trying to do.
    Yes 1024×768 would be a good resolution for playing a file for a video projector via a laptop, but NOT for DVDs. If you made a DVD from the 1024×768 video file, Encore (or any DVD authoring prg) will compress that down to 720×480.

    You basicaly have 2 choices:
    Render a movie to use to make a DVD
    Or render a movie (1024×768) to be played on a laptop to projector. But you will need to do some testing to see which codec at which data rate will give you a good video. A 1024×768 movie file may not play on a lot of laptops, so you may need to compress the video so much so that it looks worst than just playing a DVD. -Again, it will depend on your laptop, codec, etc.

    Only to a point. HDV is a very processor intensive codec, so it uses more processing power.
    But the bandwidth to the media is a much of a factor for realtime playback as the processor. If you have a 8 core, but only a Firewire HD, you’re NOT going to see much of a boast in RT-because FCP is already accessing as much as it can through the FW HD.

    That’s great. You didn’t mention you’re harddrive setup. Secondly, DVCPro HD is only pulling 11.75 MB per second-so it’s not as processor intensive as you might think.

    It sounds like AE is working fine, you’re problem is Boris & Ulead.
    You should try bring the problem files into another program that can use the alphas. If they work OK in another program-then it’s a problem with AE, if the files do NOT key out, then something is wrong when exporting out of Boris & Ulead.

    when i do CC in AE, i only use Color Finesse. It’s a great app-better then the CC in FCP.

    that being said-if you digitized in DV, edited in DV and you’re going to output DV-then you’re not going to improve the quality by using AE.

    The deal is that you watched the demo where the Mac was connected to a really fast array.
    Real-time playback is more about array through put and media access, than processor speed. The 8 core will really speed up ‘rendering’ and encoding.
