    Hello guys,
I have been wrestling with a problem for a long time.
In AE if I make, say a red ball or red text on a black screen, and save it as 32-bit alpha straight, when I start a new project, by having say, a blue sky background, and then placing the red text or red ball, I can IMMEDIATELY see those red objects ” composited ” over the blue sky. That’s ok. No problem.
    Here’s the part I don’t understand . .
If I create, say red text in Boris Graffiti, or a red ball in Ulead Video Studio v11, on black screens, and save as 32-bit alpha straight, when I bring these objects into a new project in Ae, say, blue sky background, I don’t immediately see these objects sitting over the blue sky !!! It’s not until I apply a BLENDING MODE LIKE LIGHTEN do I finally see these red objects sitting over the blue sky !! The objects are DEFINETLY interpreted as ALPHA STRAIGHT, but I still need to apply a BLENDING MODE to see them !!
So the basic question is, why are AE-CREATED alpha’s immediately seen when composited, whereas alphas straights created in other programs need to be BLENDED IN before I can see them ????
Sorry for rambling on, but I wanted to fully explain this weird scenario, which I don’t understand.
    I make my alpha’s as MOV’s.
    Thanks for any help.

It sounds like AE is working fine, you’re problem is Boris & Ulead.
You should try bring the problem files into another program that can use the alphas. If they work OK in another program-then it’s a problem with AE, if the files do NOT key out, then something is wrong when exporting out of Boris & Ulead.
