I have looked in the FAQ and still am not sure as to what to do?

I’ve designed a slideshow for a wedding using AE and it’s approx. 5 min. in length. Usually I design for DVD at 720×480, render an uncompressed avi, and then encode after.

I was told to construct the slideshow at 1024×768 (4:3) because it is the aspect ratio projectors use. I would like to know how I can render my project to get a manageable file size while still retaining a high quality video? (Any codecs recommended?)

    Thanks,

    Jason

You’re getting a little misinformation for what you’re trying to do.
Yes 1024×768 would be a good resolution for playing a file for a video projector via a laptop, but NOT for DVDs. If you made a DVD from the 1024×768 video file, Encore (or any DVD authoring prg) will compress that down to 720×480.

    You basicaly have 2 choices:
Render a movie to use to make a DVD
Or render a movie (1024×768) to be played on a laptop to projector. But you will need to do some testing to see which codec at which data rate will give you a good video. A 1024×768 movie file may not play on a lot of laptops, so you may need to compress the video so much so that it looks worst than just playing a DVD. -Again, it will depend on your laptop, codec, etc.

I’m not trying to make a DVD. I need to render a movie (1024×768) to be played on a laptop to projector. Any suggestions on codecs to achieve a small file size and high quality video at the same time?
