Here’s the way to do it:

1) Close FCP
2) Go to: /users/username/library/preferences/
a. Delete the com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
b. Delete the FCP User data folder.
3) Go to: Applications
a. Delete FCP application
b. Delete FCP HD addition easy setups folder.
4) Go to: /library/applicaton support/fcp system support/
a. Delete Custom Settings folder
b. Delete Plugins folder
5) Go to: /library/receipts/ and delete the following:
a. AnalogPAL.pkg
b. AppleIntermediateCodec.pkg
c. DigitalPAL.pkg
d. DVCproHDCodec.pkg
e. FinalCutPro.pkg
f. FinalCutproHDUpdate4.5.pkg
g. FinalCutProHelp.pkg
h. HDVCodec.pkg
i. IMXCodec.pkg
j. Uncompressed422.pkg
k. VideoOutSupport.pkg

If you want to reinstall it:

6) Insert the FCP 5.0 upgrade disk and re-install.

7) Run the OSX Disk Utility
a. Select the OSX drive
b. Repair the Disk Permissions.
c. Reboot.
8)Run Software update to get back to the current version.

Like anything on the Web, it depends a lot on the connections…the server and the downloader. You can start off with DV, and if it’s taking too long, you can try a better compressed codec.

You’re thinking about this backwards. Tom is correct. Keep the quality HIGH, EDIT, then COMPRESS. Do not try to edit a compressed file!

Again, try DV size and codec first (as this will be the easiest for FC) as a test. Once you understand that workflow, you should be able to do what you need.

Unfortunately, Snapz isn’t that good. I switched over to iShowU, which works MUCH better and faster. You do need to make sure that you are using a codec that FCP can edit. NOT H.264

Start off with some small tests, i would try DV size and codec first. Then work your way to which ever size and codec you prefer.

Brent,

I’ve had this issue as well, but it stopped since running FCP 6.
If you’re still on 5, you might try closing and opening your sequence.

Hi Joe,

compressor is on the DVDSP DVD.
Start with the DVDSP disk and only ‘check’ Compressor in the custom install options.

While Richard’s post may not have been lenthy, he’s exactly correct. There’s very little difference in having a RAID attach to your system.
You should be very aware by now that Mac’s don’t get viruses. They just don’t. Having a RAID doesn’t change that.
Is it going to be as stable? probably, but adding any card, drive, device-anything to your system makes it slightly less stable, due to the fact that more devices now need to boot up and run correctly. No matter if it’s an iPod or a JBOD, devices need drivers, software, etc to run, sometimes that doesn’t goes as smooth as you’d like and it MAY affect your system.

A reinstall will probably fix it, but you’ll need to do a little more digging to remove all of the files.

I can’t complain. When they show the map of all the fires, our’s is the one on the top of the screen. 🙂
It’s over the hill from us, so we have ash falling and they sky is brown, but it’s nothing compared to what’s going on to the south of us. Kaos

The funny thing is we had a BAD fire about 2 month ago, tons of ash, burn 200,000 acres, but very little news reporting because it only burned a couple of old barns, no loss of people or homes-great. But the winds were so strong last week that they picked up all of the burnt material and made it really nasty for a couple of days.

I gave up on washing my car.
