  • Could you just use a LOT of 1 pixel high cylinders stacked on top of each other with gradually decreasing diameters? I’ve never used CC cylinder, so don’t know how workable that is. I’m sure it would make one HUGE stack of comps, though.

I’ve found that Zaxwerks has great tutorials that come right along with their documentation. Their website has even more.

  • I’m curious; why do the podcast versions of Aharon’s tutorials come out sooooo much sooner than these versions? I mean, this tutorial has been available as a podcast since mid JULY!!

I only used Divx as an example off the top of my head, not as an endorsement. I’ll admit that I rarely use AE to do my compression. It’s usually a lossless render that I then use in Premiere.

Crazybones, now that you have the BIG render file, you can compress it into a .wmv (if you’re on a windows machine) by using Windows Media Encoder which is a free download from Microsoft.

I’m sure I’ll get even more grief from wuzelwazel for mentioning Divx, and now .wmv – ah well – it’s free and easy for beginners.

Check the size of the file. By rendering at best settings with no compression, it will mahe a HUGE file that will choke most computers trying to play it back. Once you have your piece like you want, render it to a more compressed format like Mpeg4, or Divx or something. In the render settings it lists all the codecs that are available on your system. Experiment with some of them to see what gives you the best quality vs. file size.

    Bud,

I’ve done something similar – particles form a logo and then get blown away like sand – using the Shatter effect with a picture of TV noise as a shatter map, and a 4 way gradient map to control which areas are formed (or blown away) first.

To get the particles to form instead of blowing away, I just reversed the footage and played around with the gravity setting so the particles would be coming from the right area.

What’s worked for me is to have the Text turn to Smoke, and then just reverse the footage. There are lots of Text to Smoke tutorials to be found here in the forums.

Is your tutorial .mov supposed to have audio that goes with it? I think it would be much easier to follow if it did. It definately is an interesting looking plugin.
