The solution – unbeleivable as this may sound – turned out to be a QT 6.52 reinstaller I found on Apple’s site. It only works w/ 10.3.9 and only removes QT 7.01 and reinstalls QT 6.52 (giving no indication why this might be necessary). I ran this and then virtually nothing video-wise worked. In desperation I reinstalled QT 7.01 and now everything works just as it should. If anyone knows why this is please…don’t tell me.

You could try exporting an edl and then importing that edl into a new project and recapturing from that. Theoretically this should work for you provided the reels have been named and logged properly.

If I understand your question correctly you would need a card (such as one the decklink hd cards) capable of caputuring the hdcam information and drives fast enough to process it. Once in FCP you could then edit in dvcpro hd if you chose to. Probably not the answer you were hoping for but its the best I can do. Maybe someone else will have a better idea.

This is one product I went to the show really wanting to like. However, its reliance on the very expensive (at least for the present) P2 cards, the limited dvcpro hd capacity of same, and the practical necessity of purchasing a proprietary hd to which the cards can be dumped, make it not a viable option for me at this point. I’m guessing that the practical investment would be well over twice, maybe even three times the advertised 5995. If it could record directly to a hard disk I would buy one in a minute, despite some ergonomic flaws.
