Screw the uninstaller! If your not going to use Norton’s again (and you shouldn’t), why bother? Why not “reformat”? That’s how I (and many others) upgrade a Mac. Back up, wipe the drive, add each app one at a time, load backed up files. That’s the only sure fire way to upgade a Mac. I do it with each major upgrade. It takes longer but can potentially save you headaches in the long run. It’s like clearing out the old cobwebs. Of course, if you’re in the middle of a major project, well, you probably should have waited until the project was through to upgrade. Having said that, if you’re in the middle of a big project and the new Norton uninstaller works with no ill affects, then if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Just be sure to wipe and reload at some point.

This problem is mentioned regularly on this forum and may not have anything to do with your upgrade to FCP 5. I have had this problem twice in FCP 4.x and after doing a search of posts here on the Cow, I was directed to check my media for a corrupted file. Same problem each time, and both times a Photoshop file. Two ways I know of to solve this:

1. Take all your media files offline and reconnect one or two at a time until you find the bad file.

2. Get Disk Warrior and run it on your media drives, it will find any errors on your drives and may indicate to you which file is bad.

You may want to do a search here using key words “Error 34” and “out of memory” to find more info.

Sounds like you have a corrupt file. Take your files offline and one by one reconnect each file until you find the one that is bad. Do you have any Photoshop files in this project? If you do, start with them. To maintain sanity in the future, buy yourself a copy of Disk Warrior and run it anytime you have problems with your hard drives. Just a reminder, this problem is asked on a regular basis, use the search function and you’ll find all the answers in previous posts. Hope this helps.

I also have a postscript font that appears everywhere, including the FCP text generator, but not in Title 3D. How would I go about converting Postscript fonts to Truetype?

You cannot open sequences in the viewer, but you can open nested clips, in which case the sequence timecode will be displayed. Are these nested clips? If so, you need to double click on the nested clip and the original clips will open in their own sequence. In that sequence you can load individual clips into the viewer and see the original timecode.

To see the original timecode in either the viewer or canvas window, choose the appropriate window and select Show Timecode Overlays under View on the menu bar.

I can’t help you with the distort tool but, if you hold down the option key while tapping an arrow key you can move an element in the viewer or canvas one increment at a time.
