When you import your stills, uncheck the “Sequence” option in the Import dialog. AE7 checks this by default if your still image appears to be part of a numbered sequence. But if there’s only one file, it only makes the sequence one frame long.

You can import a Premiere project into another. That will import all the bins (delete what you don’t need). You can’t import single bins, nor can you export them, you just get the whole project in one go. It does tuck it all into a new nested bin, so it doesn’t make a mess out of your open project.

  • 3000 dpi is a HUGE image. The formats you’re choosing may not support resolutions that high. Use the Image Size dialog to control the image dimensions if you must import at 3000 dpi.

I don’t think the templates are included with the trial. They use a lot of source files, which require a lot of disk space (the folder containing the footage takes up 2 GB on my machine), which means that to download the trial with all of it included would take forever.

Yes, AE 5.5 has pretty poor support of Photoshop layer styles. I think AE7 will support the stroke style, but I can’t remember. Your best bet is to download the AE7 demo and see how that works for you.

The newer versions of AE do have much better text tools than 5.x. As for layer styles, AE doesn’t do things the same way as Photoshop. Everything in AE are effects (which, being non-destructive in AE, are identical in functionality to Photoshop, it’s just a matter of mixing the right ones together).

August 18, 2006 at 12:36 am in reply to: Rotation Speed ?

I believe you’re overthinking the problem. Speed for rotation is the same as speed for other properties- it’s a matter of how much distance (ie, how many degrees) your keyframes change over how many frames. To reduce the speed, either reduce how many degrees your rotation goes or space out the keyframes more.

Using the graph editor is good to change the rate of speed (the acceleration). You can also use the Easy Ease keyframe assistants for simple, quick changes.

Use the work area bar (and the Enter key) to preview just a particular section of the timeline.

In 6.5 there’s no easy way to divide up a project. In Premiere Pro, you can have multiple timelines (sequences) per project. For 6.5, you have two options to do the same sort of thing.
1- Make a separate project for each part of the movie, then for the final, start a new project and import all of the segments in order.
2- Export each separate section to an AVI file, then assemble them later into the final project.

You can get by with a regular TV, as long as the picture quality is good. Always double-check your DVD on a couple of different DVD player and TV models before distributing, of course. The NTSC monitors are higher quality and provide more control, and if you’re doing work for broadcast you really ought to have one (and know how to use it, and vectorscopes, and the like).

What version of AE are you using? AE7 should support the Soft Light transfer mode, but previous versions might not. It’s been a gradual process getting AE to translate Photoshop features into AE-native features, and in AE7 it’s a lot better but still far from perfect.

You can always load your Photoshop file as footage instead of as a comp or individual layers, and the blending mode will work as expected. You just won’t be able to extract the layer from the rest of the image.
