You still saved the corrected AE project under the same name/location and didn’t rename or duplicate the comp in AE in any way?
It sounds like the comp may have changed status somehow, breaking the link…

There should be instructions online somewhere. I upgraded my EX1 myself with no issues.
‘Bricking’ the camera often happened to those who used a finite-life camera battery for power on an unknown duration upgrade process… The instructions clearly say to plug the camera into AC power.
The process is far less perilous for people who simply read directions…I’m guessing you’d be fine.

July 10, 2015 at 8:45 pm in reply to: CC 2015: Prelude markers set on Sony A7s clips not appearing in Premiere ProWhere is the metadata going? With Quicktime, a lot of info can be interleaved into the file itself, but many file formats have to save metadata like markers, etc in a sidecar file. That file may have to be in the same directory as the clip for Premiere Pro to ‘see’ it…

July 10, 2015 at 8:02 pm in reply to: Sony Cameras – EX-1/EX-3 replacements… Your current work-horse? Favorite features?I still have my EX1 for freelance shooting…and we replaced our EX3’s at work with PMW-200s.
50 Mbit/s is fine…but you have to have a UDF formatted media card…so we’re back to shooting on SxS for 50 Mbit. We still shoot a lot of 35 Mbit, particularly on long duration, 2 camera interviews (64 GB SDHC card adapters)…I can’t say that I have seen a huge difference, but I also can’t say that I’ve exhaustively compared and scrutinized the two formats side-by-side.
I’d echo the comment about missing the swivel grip of the EX cameras. Also, these PMW-200s get noticeably warmer than the EX cameras…not dangerously so, but it still gives you pause the first day you shoot with one.

Does he have a professional NLE package installed? Those codecs aren’t included in the operating system, but Premiere Pro, Vegas, Edius et al have them…

I think it’s a matter of how the project is set up inside the software.
I spent significant time unraveling the media archives of two colleague’s systems in FCP7 because they had opened multiple projects and between selecting the bins from one, the timeline from another…and then capturing/importing with them both open though not knowing which panel from which project had the ‘focus’, they ended up with shots on the edit timeline from project A that got archived with the media from project B…maybe a few clips with project C…so when recalling project A (…or B…or C) for revisions later, the timeline was full of holes.
…so it’s not necessarily perfect for everyone either, particularly in a world where editors who aren’t meticulous with their media management is so common, it’s cliche.
There are definitely times when it would be nice to have two projects open…but between ‘save as’ to duplicate a project with common elements in it and the ability to import projects, and more precisely-sequences, there are certainly options for repurposing media.

July 3, 2015 at 3:00 pm in reply to: Premiere Project Manager is creating huge project filesWhat is the source format of the clip?
51 GB/hour sounds like ~100 Mbits/sec which could be one of several formats…100 Mbit MPEG2 from a Convergent Design recorder would be long-GOP and therefore not trimmable…DVCProHD is I-frame and would be trimmed.

I’m glad you got it to work…in a case like this when you have so much blue spill on the subject, I’d have put a color correction effect upstream from the key to manipulate that a bit.
Rotoscoping is pretty time-intensive relative to just working up a reasonable color correction “pre” filter if you can.

July 3, 2015 at 2:36 pm in reply to: Just how much does Premiere really use the graphics card Memory? The GPU will get more use when operations that specifically use it are happening…lots of effects, etc. AE will typically show less activity in GPU than Premiere Pro unless you’re using specific features.
With Macs, I usually recommend getting the biggest and latest as they aren’t exactly upgradeable, but your software will continue to evolve…
