Apple typically doesn’t seem to care that an existing market is still viable if they can position for the next trend and leave it behind…they’ve certainly demonstrated this tendency many times.

FCPX isn’t for us 20+ year pros…it’s for our children to use on their tablets. If it works for some of us pros along the way, they won’t turn it away, but the technical support structure and application pricing is clearly targeted at a non-professional user.

It may be great on the new MacPros, but I really believe that isn’t the host system that Apple sees as the sweet spot, from a long-view sales perspective.

I think we’re heading rapidly toward the post-professional era for a large slice of the viewed content market.

Apple is just way ahead of the curve again. I’d guess that how FCPX runs on an iPad is a far more important issue than how it runs on the new MacPros.

Is your audio set up to be 1 channel mono?

Right click on the clip in the Project panel and go to Modify-Audio Channels.

I suspect what might work best for you is

Number of Audio Tracks: 2

Channel Format: Mono

This should get both channels of audio on the timeline and also on separate tracks.

Returning to this thread for one last item…

If the track matte needs to stay in position with the background while the key fill moves inside it, you can also assign the track matte to the background layer and reverse it, creating a “hole”…and lace the key fill on a lower layer and manipulate it (in this case the key fill layer needs no key effect).

I still have clients who are using a web page design best suited for flv files.

Keeping it in as an encoding choice would have been helpful.

The biggest challenges to solving technical issues are first, recording circumstances surrounding the crashes as accurately as possible (yes, it’s tedious, but critical)and second, getting to tech support personnel who can actually run the issues to ground as opposed to the sort of ‘baseline’script.

Have you pursued your difficulties with any technical staff at Adobe?

As much fun as changing NLEs every two years or so would be…I have to believe you’d rather fix the current problems and get on with it, yes?

I left Macs some time ago, but I do sense that many who adopt Apple’s OS updates early and often seem to be the final wave of beta testers relatively frequently these days…and if the OS is frequently tweaking stuff that ends up messing with SDK details, chances are that most software vendors are pulling hairs out, even though from vendor to vendor, the particular hairs might be different.

Have you checked out the Avid forums to see what challenges those users may/may not be having? Does Media Composer run on the new MacPros more trouble-free than Adobe? (…not a rhetorical question…I really have no idea.)
