After further inspection I’ve discovered that only the BCC Generators & Wipe Transitions are duplicated in Motion
BTW, Anyone been able to get either BCC 4 Trails or Trails Basic to work in Motion ?
Thanks.

Hi
Ok, I did the upgrade to BCC 4.1 as per the instructions above. Now,in my FCP plugins folder I have the original BCC 4 folder created by the CD installer & all of the new updated plugins. In FCP v5.1.2 there are now two of every plugin in the menu & no way to differentiate between the two. So,I dragged the original BCC 4 folder out & thus far everything seems to be working ok.
However, Motion no longer recognizes the new updated plugins so I set a path in Motion prefs. to the the folder which contains the original plugins installed from the CD. Now I have dupicates of almost every BCC 4 plugin listed in Motion.
Did I miss something obvious here ?
Thanks for any help and/or suggestions.

Hello Christopher
Have you tried deleting your FCP 5.1.1 preferences (3 files) then doing the Caps Lock drill ?

Launch FCP with Caps Lock engaged and quit immediately.
Re-launch FCP with the Caps Lock disengaged.
This will initialize the BCC filters within FCP.

[Christopher Wright] “If you have upgraded FCP to the Universal binary, it breaks anything but the default effect behaviour in FCP. I also found this out after upgrading. None of the Continuum or Bortis filters allow you to adjust parameters any more after the upgrade.”
There is a patch available on the BorisFX website that fixes this. If, after you install the patch you upgrade to FCS 5.1.1 you will need to trash your FCP preferences (users/*you*/library/preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data) and do the Caps Lock thing again.

Hi Tim
Both seem to be working fine on my system ok. PPC G5 2.0 Dual, OSX 10.4.6.
After upgrading to OSX 10.4.6 I did have to trash the FCP 5.1 preference files but that was to resolve a problem with the controls not showing up in the Filters tab.

Hello Brian
Thank you so very much!! That did it.
Thanks again

Thanks Brian. Hopefully a solution will be found shortly.
FWIW, the plugins seem to work fine in Motion 2.1.1 which was upgraded to resolve a compatibility problem with OSX v10.4.6.
Thanks again

Hello Brian
I’ve got the exact same problem now after upgrading from OSX 10.4.5 to 10.4.6. Everything was working beautifully under OSX 10.4.5.
Did you ever resolve this ?
Thanks

Hello drarsky
Ok, I was able to at least get something that resembles a pane of glass passing over a clip.
First I needed to understand that a comp in AE is a Layer in Motion and that a layer in AE is essentially an Object in Motion. (sorry if that is simply stating the obvious)
I went ahead and created the Glass Effect comp as described in the tutorial. I used a Basic 3D filter to “spin” the color solids on the Y axis. I then imported my footage and duplicated it. I applied an Image Mask to the duplicate and dropped the Glass Effect layer in the image well. I also added a Glass Distortion, Refraction, and Gaussian Blur to the duplicated object. All this is in the top Layer with Blend Mode set to Combine. The original clip is contained in a second layer with the blend mode also set to combine.
It doesn’t look very good at this point but it is at least a start. If anyone else has any insight as to how to improve upon this basic concept or an alternative way of going about creating this effect I would sincerely appreciate your input.
Thanks
Tim
