***Boris Continuum Complete in FCP 5.1***
If you have been experiencing difficulties with Boris Continuum Complete and Final Cut Pro, follow the directions below that pertain to your version of FCP and Processor type (Intel or Non-Intel).
For Power PC users (non-Intel Mac):
If you are using FCP v5.1.2 on a Power PC (non-Intel Mac), the Boris Continuum Complete transitions will not work. Apple made changes between v5.1.1 and v5.1.2 of FCP that caused Boris transitions not to work. The rest of the filters work fine though. Apple (not Boris FX) is aware of the transitions issue and is currently working to correct it. At this time, we do not know when this fix will be released Apple.
Boris transitions will work with FCP versions 5.1 and 5.1.1 on Power PC (non-Intel Mac).
For Intel Mac users:
At the present time, Boris Continuum Complete TRANSITIONS will not work on Intel based MacIntosh systems no matter which version of FCP you are using. The rest of the filter set still works. Again, Apple (not Boris FX) is aware of the transitions issue and is currently working to correct it and we do not know when this fix will be released.
Below is a set of instructions on how to get BCC working with FCP. It is divided into two parts. The first part explains how to uninstall Boris Continuum Complete from either an Intel or Non-Intel machine. The second part will explain how to reinstall Boris Continuum Complete according to your version of FCP and Processor type (Intel or Non-Intel). The reason we have you uninstall Boris Continuum Complete is to clean out your system and give you a new start. It’s possible some of you may have tried an update patch or two in an attempt to get BCC working again. By uninstalling BCC and deleting all previously downloaded patches, scripts or “Try and Buys” you may have on your system, we can eliminate the possibility of reinstalling an outdated patch, a patch that may have become corrupt during transfer or something that is just plain useless to the cause. This may look like a lot but, it really just boils down to delete a few files and folders and then reinstalling.
***Make sure you don’t have any BCC presets saved in any of the folders we are going to have you delete in this process.***
PART ONE:
First, uninstall Boris Continuum Complete 4 completely and delete all previously downloaded patches, scripts or “Try and Buys”. Also, delete the preferences for FCP. Here are the locations of what to delete. Delete the items whose name or description appears in “quotations”.
***Again, make sure that none of the folders you are about to delete contain any presets. The “BorisFX” folder does contain the keyframe library for other Boris applications so, make sure you move anything saved in there. ***
1. Hard Drive-Applications- “Boris Continuum Complete 4”.
2. HD-Library-Application Support- “BorisFX” and/or “Boris FX” (you may not have both).
3. HD-Library-Application Support-Final Cut System Support-Plugins-“every Boris plug”. Leave text scrambler, title 3d, title crawl and vector shape there.
4. HD-Users-you-Library-Preferences-Final Cut Pro User Data- “Final Cut Pro Obj Cache”, (the next two are optional, the OBJ cache is most important) “Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs” , “Final Cut Pro Prof Cache”.
PART TWO:
Before you reinstall, make sure that you have the “Ownership and Permissions” set to “read/write” for the following folders. It is possible even though you are logged in as the admin, to have a folder or two not set to “read/write”. It is also possible that when you updated to or installed FCP 5.1, the “Final Cut Pro System Support” folder was set to “read only”.
Here is a list of the folders to check. This applies to each folder in the chain. You will be asked to check a few more after the reinstallation BCC.

Now, once you’ve checked them and/or made any chances, follow the directions below according to your version of FCP and Processor type (Intel or Non-Intel).
For Intel Mac users:
CD Install:
Install BCC from your CD as you normally would. Then run the “Continuum Complete AE 4.1 CD patch for Final Cut Pro for the Macintosh Intel line of computers” (see below for link). Finally, run the “Fix for compatibility between Calligraphy and BCC AE 4.1 on Mac Intel.” script (see below for link).
Try and Buy Install:
Please, download a new “Try and Buy” and install it (see below for link). Select “Boris Continuum Complete 4.0 FCP on Intel”. Even though it says 4.0, it is 4.1. You do not need to patch the “Try and Buy” version. Use this code to run the installer – BCCTNB-400AEXP-27395. Finally, run the “Fix for compatibility between Calligraphy and BCC AE 4.1 on Mac Intel.” script (see below for link).

For Power PC users (non-Intel Mac):
FCP v5.1.2 on Power PC:
Follow the instructions above for Intel Mac users. This goes for either CD or “Try and Buy” install. Since the BCC TRANSITIONS won’t work in FCP v5.1.2, we advise installing BCC version 4.1, which does not install the transitions, instead of version 4.0.1. This version is designed to work on both types of machines so, even though you do not have an Intel Mac, all of the instructions for BCC on the Intel Mac apply to users of FCP v5.1.2 on Power PC(non-Intel Mac). As a bonus, you WILL NOT have to launch FCP with the Cap locks on and then relaunch with them off.
FCP v5.1 and v5.1.1 on Power PC (non-Intel Mac)
You get to make a choice here. If you are using FCP version 5.1 or 5.1.1 on Power PC (non-Intel Mac) you can install a version of BCC that has transitions or you can opt not to. Here’s how.
If you DO NOT want to install BCC with transitions, follow the instructions above for Intel Mac users. What’s the benefit of this? You WILL NOT have to launch FCP with the Cap locks on and then relaunch with them off. Also, the filters work as they should, or should I say, as they did in FCP v5.0.
If you DO want to install BCC with transitions, follow the directions below.
CD Install:
Install BCC from your CD as you normally would. Then run the “Continuum Complete 4.01 Update for Final Cut Pro 5.1 users only ” (see below for link). PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read the release notes that accompany the download patch and follow them to the letter, especially the “Known Limitations” section. It is imperative that you do so. Starting FCP 5.1 for the first time after running this patch with the Cap Locks down is very important when using this version of the BCC plug in. See below for a link to the release notes PDF.
Try and Buy Install:
During the install of the latest “Try and Buy”, choose “Boris Continuum Complete 4.0 FCP 5.1 on PPC” to install BCC WITH transitions. See below for a link to the release notes PDF.

https://www.borisfx.com/download_files/BCCAE41TryAndBuy.dmgOne last thing, before you use BCC in FCP, make sure that you have the “Ownership and Permissions” set to “read/write” for all of the folders involved.
Here is another list of folders to check. This applies to each folder in the chain. Some of these you already checked but, here they are again.
