I can export it in h.264 fine with no aspect ratio problems. It’s just when I export to Apple TV that the aspect gets screwed up. Apple TV codec gives no preferences.

So you are saying export it fist as a .mov and then re-compress it into an Apple TV m4p?

Lacie drive are terrible. The D2 drives anyway. I had 4 of them. Within two years three of them completely failed. The last one was making a funny noise so I took everything off of it and shelfed it. The first drive that went out, everything was lost. The next two I was able to save the data before their deaths.

I shoot and edit in HDV using the Z1U. I’ve found that my DV downcoversions look much better when I transcode the time line in HDV back to my HDV deck. Then I re-import the project back into FCP while down converting it to DV from the deck via FW. I now have a solid DV file from which to make an SD DVD project in DVDSP.

I know this sounds like a lot of hoops to jump through, but I’ve found the an HDV to SD FW conversion from the deck is gives the best quality from anything I’ve seen in QT thus far. I could be missing something, but all of the conversions I’ve done in QT from HDV to SD do not look the best.

You figure you’ve got to bring it back to tape anyway for storing and creating masters. Going back out to DV is just one extra step.

Yes, but is there a way to designate where that 13 gigs will be placed during the brief trancoding process or does it just default to the main application HD?

    Thanks,

Running FCP5.1 on a Dell? Never heard of it. You may want to check a non- Mac forum.

If you are working in DV, make sure your field dominance is set to lower.

Why do you need to keep the files bigger than HD? It seems like a resourse drain with no real benefit.
