I’m sorry I now think your technical directions have far exceeded my knowledge 😀 I’m not sure exactly what Im suppose to do to measure the specifics of my G-RAIDs.

when you run “iosnoop -D” (I had to run mine as sudo to allow it to work), how the heck am I supposed to make sense of the mountains of writing which happens after?

Very very interesting, so the ones at work may indeed have slightly better internals, even if the difference is only tiny. Do you randomly know if there’s a utility (windows or mac) that can give me some indication about what the internal drives are of these G-RAIDs? There a warranty sticker covering one of the screws :S

G-RAIDs seem to have nothing but good reviews, and they are fast as well as reliable. There’s an article around here somewhere about them actually. Ive been using 7 of them, as well as a further 7 of the standard G-Drives, all of varying capacity, and haven’t had a problem so far. They also have esata ports so when you do upgrade you can get a bit more speed out of them 🙂

Also you mention you’re on 7.0.2- the latest is 7.0.3, I think there were some performance fixes in that update. Also what OS are you running? Although it doesn’t effect FCP necessarily, it sort of does (background processes and the like), which is why Snow Leopard as a minimum is pretty much a must IMO.

Ah that old badger- do you any lots of images on your timeline? Tiffs especially seem to do it for me. If you do, Cope the sequence and delete the images, then try an export to see if one of those is giving you grief.
