The only way it can be done is in 3D with the iRay water plugin and 3Ds Max. if a 3D/CGI artist can recommend a better plugin will be great because i personally don’t do 3D.

You can simply stretch them and crop. It’s basically the only way. Crop them in 1920×1080 on photoshop. If that will leave out things from your composition by cropping them than you must reshoot and take some new photos. But because usually a DSLR photo has higher resolution than a digital camera it won’t be any problem regarding the quality. Just simply don’t over stretch them.

I had the same concerns about it also but to be honest i disagree with Philip Bloom and i must say i am pretty happy also with the AF-100. Indeed it handles highlights very well. However i came across people with no experience in digital cinema video cameras that bought the AF-100 for weddings and don’t even use a grey card or do a white balance and have no clue how to expose and that results to blown out highlights reminding that any camera can give blown out highlights. Still, i wouldn’t recommend the AF-100 to anyone inexperienced in digital cinematography. It’s a manual camera and theres almost nothing automatic about it. But all i am saying is that you need to have some good cinematography skills to make the best out of your AF-100. If you ask me If i am happy with the AF-100 i must say i am pleased 200% with it.

The issue isn’t only in the quality of the glass of the lens. If you use a DSLR lens you might get vignetting at the edges of your footage and specially if you stuck couple of filters on the front. The reason is that video lenses have a wider front lens diameter to let in more light and prevent vignetting on the edges of your footage. DSLR lenses are cylindrical and don’t allow much light and they vignette easily specially if you stuck couple of filters on the front. The other thing with photography lenses is that they have clicks between each f-stop. They are there as a measurement unit simply to control the aperture but also it can prevent a photographer rubbing his ca,era on his clothes by accident and changing the aperture and also gives you a “feel” and a sound so you know when the aperture f/stops have changed. Prime video lenses have smoother aperture blades and don’t have clicks. If you have a lens that you like it just because of the way it makes your footage look than you can take it to a professional and they can literally “de-click” them for you. We never use anyhow autofocus of the camera. We hardly ever use a photography lens. The lens must be a video lens without f/stop clicks smooth aperture and silent and for good and professional results must always be used with follow focus.

The camera as far as i know cannot record more than 12 hours continuously even if the relay function is ON. The longest possible recording time with this camera is 12 hours and cannot be extended even if the relay function is used. That might be the problem. But logically if you had the relay function on it should have spanned. Mine does. Did you update the firmware? Other thing is that if you use two different types of SD cards maybe that is the reason.

January 26, 2013 at 11:45 am in reply to: Questions about NP-1 style batteries for DVCPRO50 camcorderYou need an external or alternative way of powering your camera. Check out Anton Bauer Gold Mount Plate and a battery that has the same voltage with the current you use and it will last long time. Using cheap batteries will only make it difficult.

To have actual 3D you cannot achieve it with just a single frame camera. You need two separate streams of footage used as left and right. The Lumix 3D lens is only for photos. You can rig two AG-AF100 for 3D but it can get messy and complicated. The distance of the one camera related the other is critical for the depth of your 3D footage. If one camera is bumped by accident you might have a messed footage and no cotrol whatsover on 3D depth later in post. My recommendation is to not use two AG-AF100 video cameras for 3D. If you can rent out a AG-3DA1 to save your self from trouble and frustration.
