No, photoshopcan not create the 3D model, just import and animate it. You need to create the 3D model?

Yes there are many ways. For example:
Duplicate your track. On the upper track, make the event invisable using e.g. a blur or the pixelate plugin.
Create a mask at the place of the part that needs to be removed using the event pan/crop tool or the cookie cutter.

Do you want to buy 3D software? Maybe you have Photoshop CS4 extended. That might do the job already.

Just create some extra points on the curve (right-click on the curve). This will allow you to treat the dark part of the video (the lower part of the curve) independent of the midtones and the highlights. It is certainly not only trial and error.
If you don’t manage to improve to video significantly, maybe you can upload a jpg from an untreated part of a scene to let us see how it looks.

I would start with the sony curves plugin, which allows you to treat light and dark parts independently.

Oh, preview of .mov and .wmv files is always more difficult then preview of e.g. DV-avi
