3-Band EQ and/or the LOW PASS filter.

Roll-off the high frequencies, turn down the overall VOLUME LEVEL and that’s it.

Well, there’s nothing “digital” about BetaCam SP.

Don’t know why there’d be a need to include SDI Ins & Outs on this somewhat old analog deck.

Can’t find any info that suggests SDI is possible with this deck.

I have the “FXScript DVE’s” and I can control every aspect of it including direction in the Filter Tab.

A “scanner” ?

Telecine “scanners” can cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I’m thinking what you want is a “rear-projection box”.

Just focus the projector into the box and shoot the image with a camcorder.

“Flicker” can be a problem, due to different frame rates of the film vs. video.

Camcorder shutter speed adjustment may help, but unless you got some SERIOUS cash, this is the way to go.

Head-clogs are certainly an issue with all magnetic devices.
Bad “batch” tapes can be as well.

But I’ll bet that if the client took another bunch of DV SP tapes and ran them, the problems would not have popped up again either.

But that’s just a speculation.
Each set of heads are unique.

You had a bad experience.
Hope it doesn’t happen again.

As I briefly mentioned in my first post, I HAVE had some problems with individual tapes NOT branded Panasonic or Sony.

I literally have shot, and output finished product to, hundreds of both of those brands (DV SP) with “statistically” ZERO problems.

After years of working with the “DROPOUTS R US” format (some folks call it “BetaCam SP”), I was shocked at how reliable a tiny format like DV could be.

Mixdown will not affect the audio or the way it sounds or looks on the timeline in any way.

Don’t worry about it at all.

Just try it and see if it works for you.

Its not so much “bad” as its the kind of thing that “sounds right” and takes on an Urban Legend kind of status if there’s no “counter-information” posted with it.

And, again, everyone is entitled to choose her/his own tools and supplies.

There are many who only choose tape with “DVCAM” labels, and that’s certainly cool.

I (and many others) have good experience using tapes with DV SP labels.
