Macrovision works when two devices that recognize it are passing the signal through. This means that if you use a DV camcorder or other device that doesn’t have a Macrovision chip in it, to capture, you can do it just fine. I know the Canopus ADVC-500 capture/converter box allows you to turn off the macrovision.

Yeah it is kinda dumb. However, I still think they’re by far the best MP3/video player out there. I love mine and won’t part with it anytime soon.
Anyway, does anyone have any info on my original questions?

No you can’t just up the current iPod preset to a higher resolution. Apple set it up so that you have to write certain data into specific parts of the file, or iTunes won’t synch it to the iPod even if it is otherwise very compatible. https://www.ffmpegx.com and one other (for the mac) software are the only video converters that I know of that currently do this (other than Apple’s own software). As far as I know no Windows software currently released is capable of exporting iPod high-res compatible video. Though I’ve heard the Nero Recode is supposed to have an update coming soon that will do it. Sony would be smart to jump on it now and beat everyone to the punch.

Thanks for the reply TD. That makes me feel better, and more confident in my position that Vegas is largely overlooked, though one of the best–if not the best–standard NLE out there.

Your professor’s an idiot. Any of the big NLE’s can do completely uncompressed video. They’re also all non-destructive editing.
Sorry if that language is a little strong, but I hate it when people get paid to supposedly know stuff, and they don’t, then to make it worse they go running their mouth as if they did, and it’s not true so everyone who’s there and supposed to trust them to know things gets misguided. (How’s that for an educated sentance?) 🙂

not sure if there’s a way to do it with cookie cutter, but the pan/crop feature will allow you to hand draw masks (as well as feather the edges).

Have you guys sent this to Sony’s tech support guys? They need to know so they can pass it on to the developers and get it fixed in the next version. If it’s not doing stuff that a previous version did just fine, that’s a big problem. They’ve been good about responding to my tech-support queries in the past (though it may take a day or two). Let them know so we can get a version of 7 that works the way it’s supposed to.

Sounds like something’s wrong with your MPEG importer. In the media project media window, right-click in the white space and go to View then put a check next to “all files”. Now you can see all files, importable or not. Then click on the .vob file once and see if it gives you any information about the video (ie framerate, length, audio info, etc.). If not, it is not reading the vob. Either you pulled the wrong vob off the DVD or or something’s wrong with Vegas’ mpeg decoder.
