  • That’s what I was kinda guessing, but I just hoped maybe they’d give us the cheaper deal (especially those of us who have upgraded each time for several versions). I think I’ll wait and see, mostly because I don’t really have the cash right now. Thanks for the responses though. If anyone hears anything different, let me know.

Thanks Rick, I appreciate the feedback and the info on some royalty free music. That kind of thing is always helpful. I’ve actually been meaning to take down the donate link for a while… I’ll do it now.

Creatively, I’m kinda done with this project. I don’t know, perhaps some day I’d go back and re-score it so it’s sell-able. But really, outside family, who’s going to buy it? Besides it just does something for the SW or Indy fan in us all to hear the right theme music at the right times.

I appreciate everyone’s positive feedback and honest desire to help me have a film I could potentially make some money off of, but I’m not worried about it now. Its something I can show to others to exhibit my abilities, and something for friends and family to enjoy. But I’m kinda to that point where it’s time to move on to new things. I’ve got Soundbooth now (ended up choosing it over Cinescore because of its easy audio cleanup and mastering abilities), and will look at Ricks suggestions for other royalty-free music for future projects. Believe me, I’d never make a not-for-profit fanfilm again. Once was enough. Thanks again!

Well if you’re just honestly trying to help and warn me, thanks but no thanks. 1) I never called it a “home movie.” Other people might have, but I didn’t. 2) Lucasfilm owns all the copyrights to the material used and they have been very lenient to the numberless fanfilms that are out there. Not only that but they even encourage them. Their only requirement is that if you use copyrighted material, you make sure and don’t sell it or use it to make profit in any way. I’m being very careful of that, am aware of the possibility of legal ramifications, and am not too worried based on Lucasfilm’s past record regarding these things. Thanks for the warning, but we did it for fun for our own enjoyment and just thought maybe people on the web (and those who helped out with it) might want to see.

Thanks Douglas! I really appreciate it. I understand the problem with the river sequence. It was actually filmed and completed several years prior to the rest of the film, and doesn’t have the multiple story threads or production value of the rest of the film. But the rest was made as an expansion of the original so without a lot of extra work there was no way to redo or remove it. Thanks again, I really am greatfull for your positive response.

No offense Douglas, but don’t you think you’re being a little harsh? As a Mod, aren’t you supposed to be making people feel invited and welcome? Even if you don’t especially care for their approach or logic (or lack thereof).

The legality of it all still up for debate. As long as one keeps it for personal use, breaking the copy protection isn’t necessarily illegal in and of itself. CleanFlicks got shut down because they lost a civil suit. If what they were doing was against the law, then the other companies who do the same, or similar things, would all have cops storming their offices. They’re still in business.

I know that people say it’s about the director’s vision, and I can understand that. But there are a lot of people who, for moral reasons, don’t want to see the nudity, sexuality, and graphic violence. They still want new, great entertainment, just not the exposure to some of the harsher elements that seem so prevalent in today’s media.

The fact is, TV still edits films to broadcast, as do airlines and other things. The DGA was just upset that they weren’t getting an additional cut for these edited versions. Kinda stupid business-wise on their part because it made their films available to an audience that wouldn’t have otherwise purchased or rented them.

    Back to you DPayne:
In the end, I have a few films (which I own) I’d like to edit just a few very minor parts out of so I can watch them with my little brothers (aged 8 and 11). I’ve tried and tried and cannot find a way to make video taken from a commercial DVD show up properly in Vegas (or Premiere or other NLE’s). I can make it work, but something with the way the MPEG2 VOB’s are encoded, Vegas can’t translate them correctly. I used some footage for an educational project I did a while back (posted on this forum because I received some help from several people here). No matter what I did, frames from a previous part of the video would suddenly show up later on, or similar things would happen so that video would appear to jump forward and/or backward sometimes slightly sometimes in a big way. Its weird because sometimes there will be a fairly long sequence without any problems, but then inevitably there’s a part with these weird frame insertions and or deletions. If anyone around here knows what’s going on I’d sure like to know the source of the problem.

Thanks for trying but I don’t have Excalibur. I’d like to get it, but just don’t have the money right now. Any other ideas anyone?

Sure wish they’d update these forums so active topics could move back to the top. This one’s probably lost since its moved down this far.

so… sorry but nevermind. I figured out that for some reason my two external drives had been remapped without my knowing it. So I guess the projects within projects, all needing remapping of media, was just too much to handle. After opening and re-saving each of the projects inside my main one, it now opens normally. Sorry, I thought I’d tried about everything, but hadn’t noticed that until I started opening other projects.

Wow that some amazing looking stuff! Hope it’s as good as it looks. Too bad I can’t afford it now. Maybe the plugins will be cheaper or individually priced.

I’ve had people tell me 8 Pro runs great on Vista 64. Upgrade to Vista 64.

  • I may not have had it installed when I tried before, but now I do, and I just tried again, and it gave me the same thing! It wants me to buy it. Isn’t Vegas 8 Pro only available as a bundle with DVDA 4.5? If it’s just giving me problems because I tried to use it before installing DVDA, that seems stupid on Sony’s part. Why not just have it install with Vegas, since there’s no way anyone would have Vegas 8 without DVDA?

And how am I going to get it to work? I don’t want to do a complete reinstall! Sony should be smarter than this.
