October 22, 2011 at 12:05 am in reply to: One video format that plays on all devices and platforms?Hi David
From My experience I would upload the video clip to YouTube,go to export media choose H.264 then select a Preset for YouTube HD or SD,Wide or 4:3 ratio render and upload,Files are large put are close to original.
You can go into custom to reduce file size it’s up to you.
The reason I like YouTube is one Upload and YT takes care of play back and streaming issues, bellow is what I have Uploaded.Google HoofsUpLottery to see Video
Hope this Helps

Hi Val I sympathize with the problem you are having If some of this tips don’t work you my have to do a Full instal from Win 7.
For me I have tried reinstalling QuickTime only and after reinstalling CS5 with the recommended version and up to date update patches, none of this worked for me at the time I was left with little choice but to do a complete install from Win 7.
If I had setup a Manual restore point I believe It would have got me out of trouble.
I would not be surprised at all if it is a Win 7 issue, there was a special patch needed a little over a year ago for Encor it was crashing whenever BluRay was selected.1)Instal the latest CS5 updates that was not available at the tome for me it could resolve the problem.
2)If it’s not already copy CS5 project files and and all AVI’s needed for your Projects to a drive other than C drive.
3)Format C drive and instal Win 7 One good thing it loads quick.
Hope this helps you Val but remember once your PC is running free of BUGS create a MANUAL RESTORE POINT.Take Care

Thank you Bob for your suggestion but it didn’t make any difference I even uninstalled other software kept only the bare essentials.
I will be following Jonathan’s link and see what happens.
Thank you both I will never give up.

Did you follow the steps on your Camcorder Unplug ilink to set it to component out in the menu and be in HDV mode turn off Camera plug your ilink then turn on your Camera, you should see the video in FCP any step left out it would not reset your Camera and you will not work.

Hi Jacob Follow the steps I indicated above on this thread of email and you should be able to capture, provided there are no other issues.

Any Footage shot in HD,HDV,or FULL-HD video format there is a choice to record in either i,interlaced or p,progressive scan.
Interlaced is used in older T.V. sets including acquisition for home or production houses through to transmitting for T.V. stations in standard definition 4.3 – 16.9 aspect ratio (2 fields per frame x 30 per second = 60 fields).
Progressive scan is selected for HD acquisition to provide a film look and also get Higher resolution best result for any work.
You can choose Interlaced in HD but you will get slightly lower res.
Choose the correct acquisition to suit you or your clients needs.I believe with today’s top non linear systems you can choose to convert from one to the other.
Happy snapping with your DSLR

I have a Sony HDV and this is what I had to do hope it’s the same with your model.
Before you connect your ilink make sure in your Camcorder menu that the HDV setting is set to component out,Do not leave any setting on that converts HDV to anything else.
Turn your camcorder off, connect the ilink to your Mac run FCP with the HDV settings than turn on camcorder once the tape is in you should have tape control.Take care

Hi Bogiesan you are Wright Technically its not a crush, the video goes in freeze mode but it does not stop at the same place this happens to both long and short programs and we need to escape to proceed.
This Mac is at a work environment I have been working with it for 7 months it’s also part of a server/network setup the QuickTime movies are imported from the server then copied to tape. This freeze happens 3 to 5 times a month twice in one program at different points.
Having 12 years nonlinear experience on Amiga OS and PC platforms the odd freeze did occur on the older setups but on today’s high-end nonlinear systems it should not happen PC. Or Mac.
And no I’ not having a go at the Macs.
Many Thanks
Terry
