QuickTime & premier cs5
Posted by Terry Tsangaris on August 1, 2010 at 5:59 amHello Happy CS5 users
Everything was running fine until yesterday when Premier would not run, upon start up I get this message (importing exporter QuickTime host.prm )and just crashes.
All other CS5 Apps run o.k. AE gives me a choice to run AE this time without Quicktime and then it loads as normal.
I have re installed the latest Quicktime, Last night I even Re installed CS5 the problem is still there. My PC has a i7 cpu – 860 @ 2.8ghz
8 gb ram
nvidia gtx – 260I’m Prepared for a complete install of windows unless I can avoid it,
and I hope the above problem does not Re appear.I appreciate any response
Many Thanks

August 1, 2010 at 11:49 amThis sounds like a firewall issue

Try disabling your firewall and see if the problem resolves. If so, check the above thread for the details about what Premiere and After Effects related processes to unblock.
Hope this helps

August 4, 2010 at 7:13 amThank you Bob for your suggestion but it didn’t make any difference I even uninstalled other software kept only the bare essentials.
I will be following Jonathan’s link and see what happens.
Thank you both I will never give up.

January 19, 2011 at 3:25 pmI have the same problem with Premiere CS5 crashing after a certain amount of quicktime clips are in the project. This seems to be a Adobe issue with quicktime files. How embarrassing for Adobe. How long has this program been out and they still haven’t fixed this problem?

April 15, 2011 at 10:17 pmHey Terry,
I have exactly the same problem! Really annoying! I tried everything except reinstall win…. Have you succeeded with some solution?
Pls help me, I have urgent works to do with it, even I have a current UN-rendered project inside the program and I cannot get in! 🙁
I would really appreciate your support to my personal mail (valpapadotgmaildotcom). Thanks in advance!

April 16, 2011 at 1:25 amHi Val I sympathize with the problem you are having If some of this tips don’t work you my have to do a Full instal from Win 7.
For me I have tried reinstalling QuickTime only and after reinstalling CS5 with the recommended version and up to date update patches, none of this worked for me at the time I was left with little choice but to do a complete install from Win 7.
If I had setup a Manual restore point I believe It would have got me out of trouble.
I would not be surprised at all if it is a Win 7 issue, there was a special patch needed a little over a year ago for Encor it was crashing whenever BluRay was selected.1)Instal the latest CS5 updates that was not available at the tome for me it could resolve the problem.
2)If it’s not already copy CS5 project files and and all AVI’s needed for your Projects to a drive other than C drive.
3)Format C drive and instal Win 7 One good thing it loads quick.
Hope this helps you Val but remember once your PC is running free of BUGS create a MANUAL RESTORE POINT.Take Care

April 17, 2011 at 12:18 amHi Terry,
thanks for the detailed answer!
I believe the only solution might be the reinstall of Win7 …:(((
When the problem came up, I had run out of space of C drive, where CS5 was. Then I tried to free up some spaces and then there sthing could have happened.
So u might right, it is a win 7 issue. I hope a simple reinstal (without formating) might resolve, as I would keep all the other programs there on C drive.
Or you think it would be a mistake? Thanks and take care!

December 26, 2011 at 1:33 pmI have the same problem on Mac…
The only difference is that it loads the Premiere but it crashes on rendering… if I restart the computer, I can go into Premiere again, if I dont it wont open anymore, while it stops loading at ExporterQuicktimeHost.bundle, so I guess it crashes the Quicktime codec…Any news on the problem or suggestions how to solve it?
Thank you

December 27, 2011 at 1:10 amHi Mitja your problem on the Mac sounds the same issue I had on the PC though the order things occurred are in different order you had the crash with the Quicktime.
At some point your Mac should have been working fine,if you also have a restore point do the restore BUT MAKE SURE you save any project files to another drive.
I made the mistake of not creating a Manual restore of a time that everything is running fine,I installed updates or new software and CS5 started crashing on startup.
I had to do a complete install still don,t know if it was corrupt file or virus A restore point would have saved me time.Hope this Helps

December 27, 2011 at 7:28 pmThank you for the answer!
So far I come to conclusion that one of the “effects videos” in .mov could be corrupted. I was crashing all the time at this one, but now that I eliminated it, it works just fine again, also with other FX.
I did the backups anyway, but hoping I wont have new troubles with .mov files. If I come up with some new info I will let you guys know…
Thanks for your response again.
Cheers, M
