  • [Eric Merklein] “When I import back to Pro, chroma is not the same.”

I don’t know exactly what you mean by this but when you render to a compressed format that has 4:2:0 chroma subsampling you will lose some color information in the compression. Especially more saturated colors.

I would advise against using Quicktime at all. It is a really bad tool for making any kind of color critical decisions. In VLC you can set different output renderers in the preferences. You should also check your GPU control panel that it doesn’t have anything weird going on.

  • What are you using to view these files? If you bring it back to Premiere does the export match the sequence?

[Eric Merklein] “Premiere Pro continues to be a sub standard toy.”

Mismatches between exports and the sequence are in pretty much all the cases caused by the player playing the file, GPU settings and the operating system color handling and not the program where the file came from.

  • We actually had this exact conversation before but here goes:

When you change the deliver page resolution you are up or downscaling from the timeline resolution. If your footage is in UHD but your timeline is in HD and you export in UHD you’re upscaling the already downscaled HD timeline and not using the full resolution of the source files.

If you work in HD but your delivery is in UHD then when you change the timeline to UHD end export in UHD you’re using the original resolution of the source files.

  • [Duke Sweden] “What is the benefit?”

You’ll get better performance in HD if you don’t need to work in UHD. If you need to deliver in UHD then just change the timeline resolution before rendering.

No. Export a master and have the DVD authoring software do the transcoding.

There’s been a lot of title/interlacing related things with Resolve so I would probably render a master out and add the texts in a software that can do the job like you want it to.

  • [Adam Berch] “I have been using FCP 7 and Premiere Pro for a very long time. So I know how to edit.”

Resolve isn’t FCP or Premiere and it has it own pros and cons.

[Adam Berch] “Also, If I have a make a new timeline that’s 1920 x 1080 and I put a clip that’s 3940 x 2160, will it ask me to change the timeline resolution”

No. It will only ask to change the project framerate if there’s a mismatch because that setting will be locked at the moment you start bringing media in.

  • [Adam Berch] “Is my footage importing into Resolve at 3840 x 2160?”

    Yes.

[Adam Berch] “Does the free version support 3840 x 2160?

Yes and it looks like you should read the manual or check out some basic Resolve course before starting a project.

[Rachel Ambrose] “Can I install Premiere CS6, so that I can create/burn DVD’s with Encore, while still keeping Premiere v12 active and running on my system. “

    Yep.

[Duke Sweden] “No need. I tried it again and this time it took. “

My point was more on the “If I can’t use the stills from one timeline or project to another what’s the point?” because this is a thing. Search Powergrade in the manual.
