I wouldn’t upgrade to Vista yet. Not even if you paid me a lot of money. There is no sane reason whatsoever to upgrade. Maybe next year. Go with XP and your life will not be miserable and you will not hate Microsoft as much.

In a way it does, depending on what single core system you upgrade from. Each individual core on a dual core system may be somewhat slower than a single core CPU. Since the rendering takes place on one core only, this may be slower than your AMD single core CPU.
This doesn’t surprise me.

March 17, 2007 at 12:51 pm in reply to: Rendering Problem: Won’t let me render in any formatIn addition to the existing suggestion, do note that a lot of the clips you can get on the web may be encoded by weird encoders. It may be that you do not have a Vegas problem but a problem with a decoder or similar.
One way to test this is to download something like VirtualDub, use it to convert the videos either to DV-AVI or using Huffyuv or something similar. Then edit in Vegas.
The highly compressed video you get off the net is incredibly difficult to edit.

OK, so then we need to figure out when the footage starts looking poor. Capturing using FireWire is not capture as such, just a digital transfer of the video from your camcorder to your computer. When capturing like this there is never a quality loss in the footage. So, when you say that the captured footage looks bad but it is fine on the camcorder, that can not be the case. The footage is identical on camcorder and computer.
So, step by step – when does the footage go from good to bad? When you have captured, open the raw captured footage in Windows Media player. This footage should look identical to the footage on the camcorder (with minor differences due to the computer/TV color differences etc).
If the captured footage looks fine – given your info, it should – what do you do next?

“Capture” is typically a digital transfer and therefore doesn’t change the quality of the “captured” footage. Something appears to be amiss. What camera are you using, and how are you capturing?

I am a little curious about your answer to the last one. You say that the audio was included in the render, and that you used the DVD Architect template. These are two contradictory statements, the DVD Architect template doesn’t render with audio, so you must have changed at least some things after choosing the template.
Also, are you sure the video file is 3.8M? That is a very short video.

Short answer is yes, DVD+R is a technically superior format to DVD-R. The downside is that some older players are less compatible with DVD+R disks than with DVD-R disks. The number of players affected should be relatively small.

The problem with doing start->run is that you won’t see if there are any error messages etc. Do the following:
