Avid relinks by tape name and timecode. Doesn’t matter what your clip name is.

[Brad Phillips] “You have to decide yourself at what hour, minute, second, and frame the timecode starts at.
It appears that the same plug in for AVID 3.0 might be able to do it. “Yeah, I don’t remember when that was added, but it is a big value. upgrades aren’t that expensive anymore, do oy have to wait?

It is on that version. It is the Timecode effect. Not in front of a system right now and I forget the exact effect folder it is in, but is a generator and should be where the SubCap effect is.

Yes, Avid has a TC plugin. And it is lightyears ahead of what FCP supplies.
Also, if you are doing a lot of XDCAM work, I seriously suggest you upgrade to 4.0. As of 3.5 the AMA function allows you to mount the drive with XDCAM files an immediately have them available for playback and editing within Avid.

If you upgrade to V4 or know anyone who has V4, You can open the 720P sequence in the 720 SD project and recreate the title.

[Aaron Taylor] “Can I ingest SD footage from a tape source without having to change the project to SD temporarily?”
no. switching the project type tells Avid which input to grab the video from.

[Jason Mullen] “Out of curiosity, any Avid houses swearing by Mesoft as an alternative to Pilotware? “
The only one I know of personally is Matchframe Video in Burbank… but that could be because they were financial partners with MeSoft. :-0

[Jason Mullen] “Pilotware seems to be fixed towards a final cut world”
Not true at all. I personally know a lot of Avid Reality houses who swear by Pilotware.

Like After Effects, Boris…er I mean Avid FX has a learning curve. The biggest advantage to Avid FX is that it is in the timeline making for easier changes with no roundtripping to AE.
