thanks Rafael for your reply
honestly I feel lost, I don’t know what to do,
we are trying to learn this new thing to us, but we are constantly hearing different things!!!
is there one source we could learn from? a course? a book? anything?!!there are so many different formats, I am not interested in any, I just want to learn about this specific format! the XDCAM and the workflow. -
our final output is going to be both SD and HD so for the HD do we export XDCAM ?

thanks walter
two more question please
what is the difference between converting into ProRess while importing the media into FCP and import the media as it is and then edit it into a ProRes sequence, is there difference between the two? (convert vs prores sequence)and when you say that ProRes gives a better quality, woud you recomend then to export it that way as well?
many thanks

hey walter, excuse my silly questions but this is my way to learn things!! and you are being very helpful to me and I appreciate that
what makes it a better codec to work with?
also, you told me about that sony plugin that I should download from sony website, I did but I still have only two options in my preference window:AVCHD plugin
P2 Plugin!many thanks for your help

well unfortunately this is not possible Shane!! we are working in a 3rd world country!! unless if you really think that it is not possible and we’ll not be able to do the job by reading and practicing and keep asking silly questions, then maybe we should send someone for training in the States!! what do you think we should do in such circumstances?! maybe send one editor to watch the process? you think that would be better? a course maybe?
this is a whole new world to us and we want to make sure that we do our best at it!

thank you guys for all your help
Walter, what do you mean when you say “Convert all the EX footage to ProRes during ingest and stay in HD” how do I do that? what is the plug in called because i can’t see other than AVCHD and P2 options
I edited a few clips to the sequence and changed the sequence setting into apple ProRes 422, and the Compressor in he QT video setting is set to XDCAM EX 1080p25
is this the right setting to work with?!

I just need to add that we have archive material that is SD and the final product is going to be both SD and HD formats!

hey Dave thanks for your reply
but I was wondering what is Cine 1 and Cine 2? -
thank you so much for all your help
I just found out that my producer was advised by apple that we work in SD which will be faster and take less space on hard disk and when we are done with the editing we can “upres” to HD by deleting all the media and reconnecting to the HD!!
is that correct?
what about color correction? is that done before or after the “upres”
is the “upres” an easy thing to do?appreciate all your help

hey Rocco, thanks for your reply
great work, very inspiring,
i was wondering though:what is the best and fastest way to create those glowy flashes that are used a lot in video clips, where the video would be playing in normal speed then, few frames of fast motion with a glow then back to normal speed
how do I get that glow in Avid xpress 5.8?
