You don’t say exactly which type of HD you’re shooting – but if we assume full 1920×1080 10 bit uncompressed you’re looking at around 22 Terabytes of storage.

It’s all because cards like the Kona are spoiling us! They keep adding new features for free!

    Damn them! 🙂

The J-3 deck was available as an analog only version with no SDI card. We have one here with the component & XLR option. If this is the deck you have then you might have to hire in something with SDI.

I’ve had several people call quarter inch audio tape half inch tape. Wrong – but it’s odd that it’s happened to me more than once…

  • Try the Perian quicktime plugin. It will let you open up .flv files in any app that uses quicktime – including FCP.

[Paul] “Will my CinewaveRT Pro card work in the latest G5 with FCP studio2?”

Definitely not. There isn’t actually a machine called a G5 Intel – but both the G5 Quad and Mac Pro use PCI-Express slots, which are physically different than the PCI slot your Cinewave needs.

    April 30, 2007 at 11:32 am in reply to: 4/3 letterbox(16/9)

[Steve Wargo] “Since we have been doing HD downconverts, we have discovered that less than 40% of the video people out there have any idea what the difference is between anamorphic 16×9, letterbox and 4×3.”

Wow! Makes me glad to be working here in the UK – 16×9 has been standard on our productions for years now, and all the camera ops seem to have a good grasp of how it all works.

    That 40% figure stuns me!

Thanks for this. This workflow is just too time consuming for us – I guess we’ll wait and see what support FCPS2 brings.

We’re currently on FCP 5.1.2 – but I’ve been doing some testing and 5.1.4 is looking good so far. We’ll probably roll into fully up-to-date in a week or two…
