[Mickey Power] “used in a lot of developing world centres “
If you’re likely to be targeting low-spec computers I would stick to MPEG1 as your delivery codec. We’ve seen some low-end machines that were running Windows Media 7 relatively recently…
MPEG1 can be played back by pretty much anything, you’ll just have to live with the quality hit. Best to play it safe I would think.

They look like interlace lines to me. That would be perfectly normal if you’re working on an interlaced preset. I take it you aren’t connected to an external monitor?

June 23, 2010 at 9:27 am in reply to: All On2 Flix Flash encoders discontinued immediatelyI think this is related to the fact that Google have made the VP8 codec open-source. There’s no point continuing to develop a paid-for program when the open-source community will soon build it into free encoding programs.

I expect that we’ll see a free encoding implementation of this appearing very soon, possibly into programs that use the ffmpeg engine. It’s being built into the WebM project:

Sounds like the iMac would suit you just fine. Remember the iMac has gigabit ethernet for fast IO, and you can use an AJA IO for video monitoring off the FW800 port if you need it.
Remember the 8 core Mac Pro is getting old compared with the iMac. When the Mac Pro gets refreshed later this year it’ll be the speed king again.

June 14, 2010 at 9:39 am in reply to: How capture a Xbox 360 gameplay with the AJA Kona Box?[Andres Delgado] “i wanna capture with a lil res, maybe at 720p.how i can change that?”
Rather than have the Kona downconvert your 1080i signal I would set the xbox itself to 720p. You can do this from the xbox system settings blade. Then just use a regular 720p to Prores easy setup. Should be less confusing.
[Andres Delgado] “if i wanna see on my tv i must connect other HDMI cable on the out port of the aja kona and connect to my tv in the HDMI?”
Yes.

I think you’re still missing the Sony plugin. It works with the Log & Transfer window – but it’s an extra install.
They have rather confusingly called it the Log and Transfer Utility for Apple FCP, and although it seems focused towards an EX/XDCAM workflow I think it also supports the Z5 CF files. You should be able to find it with a google search.

We regularly use NTFS for Mac to write files to windows friendly NTFS formatted hard disks. No pesky 2GB limit.
