  • Log and Transfer Plugin – I am desperate!!

    Hi there,

I have had problems in the past with the L&T plugin for FCP6 & 7

Luckily, my laptop (MacBookPro 15″/FCP 6) did manage to somehow overcome this, but not my desktop (MacPro 2×2.26 quad core/ FCP 7).

This was not a problem since I would use the former to transfer M2T files from my HVR-MRC1 recording unit to any external hard drive. Never really had time to deal with the latter’s resistance due to work constantly coming through.

I have sold my laptop now 🙁 and am trying to get my desktop’s L&T plugin to recognise my recording unit without success!!! I have tried everything which has been formerly posted in threads throughout Creative Cow, but still, no success!! I am under pressure to finish an edit this weekend and stuck with GVs which I have foolishly recorded only onto the unit!

Oddly, my FCP7 plugin does recognise when I transfer AVCHD files from my Lumix GH1 via a card reader for the SDHC cards.

Please, any help will be welcomed!

    Thanks in advance.

M2T files aren’t supported I’m afraid. You need to use something like MPEG Streamclip (free download just google it) or other software to transcode the files to an editable format.

    Many thanks for responses guys.

Jerry, I was able in the past to capture M2Ts (HDV RECORDED IN SONYs Z5) via Log and Capture in FCP6. The plugin would instantly recognise the recording unit and show the clips…

Is this possible that FCP7 Log and Transfer has been downgraded to not work with M2Ts or I have possibly explained myself wrongly?

    Cheers,

    Naor

I think you’re missing the plugin from the sony website:

    Hi Stuart,

When you say the plugin, I assume you refer to the actual Log&Transfer one right? I have got it, and been using it to capture AVCHD without problems.

The problem seem to happen only with M2Ts !! and I have tried changing card readers/copying VIDEO folder to desktop.

Still, I keep on getting the ‘media not supported…’ notice.

    ?? any ideas why??

I have now used Mpeg StreamClip as Jerry suggested but I cannot see this as a long term solution.

    Many thanks,

    BTW. liked your site 😀

    That is likely the problem…

I think you’re still missing the Sony plugin. It works with the Log & Transfer window – but it’s an extra install.

They have rather confusingly called it the Log and Transfer Utility for Apple FCP, and although it seems focused towards an EX/XDCAM workflow I think it also supports the Z5 CF files. You should be able to find it with a google search.

I had a similar problem. I had been using Log and transfer for over a year to import Z5 footage off CF cards into Final Cut 6. Then I upgraded to FCP 7 and it just stopped recognizing the cards in the log and transfer window.

After re-installing the Sony plugin though it works fine again.

You can get it at https://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/pro_hdv/fcp_plugin/

Thanks to the Miraculous Pixels blog for the link.

Thanks Robert! I had the same problem and your link took me directly to the Sony plug-in that I needed. Works just fine now…
