I agree with with peter the graphics cards are going to play a much more important role than they have in the past. I personally am waiting for the QUAD core Intel chips that have been announced(the chips are supposed to ship to computer makers by years end and the computers should ship early spring). Just think 8 Processors on 2 chips WOW!! And that combined with 2 or more SLI graphics cards ( come on apple give us SLI!!) Gives me a woody!!!

Hi Christopher, The Jimmy box was originally designed for wireless mics the Firestore just happens to fit perfectly so a lot of shooters have adopted it for use with the Firestore devices. As far as i know there are no additional dampening devices available for it you might email or call Jimmy and see what he has or what are his thoughts are. He is a working DP and originally build the box for himself. The Jimmy box helps move the Firestore away from the camera mics instead of the saddle that Focus sells as an accessory (which positions the Firestore fan directly over the mics). Its worked quite well for me, and i don’t seem to pick the fan noise very often (my fan does not run all the time) Is the Jimmy box the perfect solution probably not but it is a huge improvement over what focus sells. At some point i am sure Focus or someone else will come up with an even better solution in the mean time it is a great wireless mic holder and a decent Firestore bracket! If anyone has come up with a better solution please by all means let us know!! Lets hope the forthcoming and long awaited Cineporter is quieter (since its going to mount directly under the HVX200). For more info about my experience’s with the Firestore and the accessories that i have been using and my use of the Firestore in an underwater housing check out the Sept. issue of Studio Monthly Magazine I’m supposed to be on the cover shooting underwater with the HVX 200 and Firestore.Which is a whole other story!!! Good luck Stuart Cummings Watermark Productions

August 11, 2006 at 2:45 pm in reply to: What modifications do you want to see on the HVX-200″a”Well lets see-
Less noise in the picture (adds to film look but give me a break)
Sharper picture (higher rez chips) I too am spoiled by the sharper picture of the Canon
HDSDI out w embedded audio
External Headphone level adjustment
a better quality LCD ( heck even a TRV 900 has a sharper better viewing angle)
Bigger more affordable P2 cards
Bigger more affordable P2 cards
oh i said that already
A affordable P2 card reader for hooking up to my workstation ($2500 for a 5 slot reader is just WAY to much) and make it with both Firewire and USB 2.0
A P2 store with a decent size hard drive and a price thats not the same as a good Laptop!
Flipping picture function without having to hach it (for those who need it M2, Red Rock, etc.Underwater housing builders)
This is just of the top of my head but its a start -
Hello Marian,The Firestore fan can make a little noise when it first starts up and when it’s been on for a while (or when its been sitting in direct hot sun for a while). i have the Firestore holster that focus enhancements sells but sometimes the mics can pick up the fairly quite fan on the FS-100. To get around this i have been using the Jimmy Box 2 which was originally designed for use with wireless mics but just happens to fit the FS-100 perfectly. You can check it out Here https://www.jimmybox.com/Hope this helps out. Regards Stuart Cummings Watermark Productions

Hello Again Walter, Sorry for my last post i did not read your later post till just now (the one about using the AJA analog component HD-HDSDI converter) I am still curious do you think going out analog component HD from an HDV deck is better than keeping the signal digital alll the way thru?? Stu

Hi Walter, How are you going to convert the HDV to DVCPRO ? Just Curious. Stu

July 24, 2006 at 10:31 pm in reply to: What would I gain with a Kona card added to my current workflow?Hi Greg, As you may know by now the canon H1 camera does not embed the audio in the HDSDI signal which makes it more of a hassle to capture nor does it allow for deck control or timecode. We are currently producing the second season an National Hd cable show shot with several of these cameras however we chose a much different approach the the post workflow,The main piece of hardware we use is the Convergent Designs Connect LE this little gem of a box takes your HDV video/audio/timecode out thru the firewire connection and converts/disembeds the Video/audio and converts it to uncompressed HDSDI with the Audio embeded something that all the Hd Kona cards can read and use.You can use uncompressed hdsdi or convert to in our case, DVCPRO HD 1080i 60 in real time. It will also take the time code and convert it to RS-422 so that the Kona card can control the camera/deck. The deck control has a little slower response time than say a broacast deck but it DOES WORK well enough. I was involved in the beta testing of the Connect LE driver develoment for the H1 so i can attest to the support and commitment that Mike Schell and his team have for the product. I should mention that we use a sony HDV deck via firewire instead of the camera because the cameras are always in the field. We tested the Miranda box which does the same thing however it costs 600-700 more and does not support firmware updates from a MacFirmware updates with this productare done with a PC only. The Connect Le team has been quik with new firmware updates and the performance has gotten even better with these fienware updates not to mention the fast response to any intial tech support we needed since we started using the Connect Le in early march. They are both good products but being a mac only house we chose the Connect LE. Greg/Walter please feel free to contact me at 561-213-5209 or email me at Stuart@watermarkhd.com if you have any further questions. You can call Mike Schell at Convergent Designs and tell him Stuart Cummings sent you and he may be able to set you up with an eval. unit so you can see what a truly breakthrough awrd winnig product this is. PS I DO NOT WORK FOR this company. I just wanted to set everybody straight as to the best way handle to hdv video in a Pro broadcast facility. Good Luck Stuart Cummings Watermark Productions

July 15, 2006 at 4:05 pm in reply to: is data transfer from HVX200 to the IPOD video possible?Ziggy, Keep in mind that the hvx200 will reformat (using fat32) that ipod, thus erasing yourmusic/data on your ipod. Soooyou wont be able to listen to that music without reformating again. This has been dicussed before. You are better off using a bus or battery powered harddrive. Stuart

July 14, 2006 at 11:37 pm in reply to: is data transfer from HVX200 to the IPOD video possible?Hi Neil, Contact my long time friend Mike Hastings at Aquavideo.com or call him at 954-937-6600 please tell him Stuart sent you. Mike has been making housings for 25 years. The Equinox is basicly a not as nice copy (my opinion) of the Aquavideo Housing. I did a lot of the R&D testing of the first HVX200 housings Mike built back as early as Feb. I think at the time it was some of the first U/W Video shot with an HVX200!! Regards Stuart, P.S. Make sure you tell him i sent you and i am sure he will cut you a better deal than what equinox is charging.
