Hmmm. I’ll use that one. The term “filming” is never used on our jobs. We don’t use film and we don’t film anything. I’ve been saying “capture” for quite a while. That term applies to any form of acquisition. Now that we’re using card based cameras, the term fits even better.

Just kidding! But it won’t be long before that is a legit question. I have a Beetles record (45 no less) sitting on my desk and a young lady was in one day and said “Is that a vinyl record?” I bought it new in ’64.

Our present client is on a PC but we’re a FCP house so we’ll probably go both ways. (DRW – Hold your tongue on that one)

We went through the tax thing ten years ago and you are right on the money. The tape itself is a delivery medium only. If the recipient took your cassette and used it for playback, like they did many years ago, you would be delivering a piece of “tangible property” but all you are delivering is the image and the sound.
There is a company that does digital distribution: DG Fastchannel. They can help you get started.

Happened to us a few months ago. We had a project that was several years old that was an instructional DVD set for a college. We needed the 400 gigs it occupied and made the call. “We are so done with that and our internal guys have everything” was the response. Wiped the drive and within the above allotted 24 hours came the call from the program admin. “On second thought, our internal guys are idiots so buy us a drive and store the files.” Crap. We located Data Rescue on the web and brought it all back.
Had we loaded another job on the drive, we would have been screwed. This project was 4 years old.

After thinking about it, we have one that we started in Feb 2005 and we’re still waiting. It was a medical computer device that got a piece of new technology so were waiting for some code to be written and then we move ahead.

Many of us here have similar stories and we share your pain. Next time, serve him a beverage with sleeping pills mixed in, lots of sleeping pills.
But, I have to ask: Is the product that you delivered superior to the product that you would have delivered? If he is a top notch director, he has a certain vision that he MUST get or he is settling for second best. As much as he may have been a pain, are you proud of the result?
