Public property requires permits under certain conditions like crew size, commercial or hobby (student), and hand held shoots are exempt if they’re small run and gun things.
Private property is controlled by the property owner.
Many times, property owners require insurance. if there’s a security guard, the property could be bank owned. You can look the property owner up using the county treasurer’s office which usually has all of the info on-line.
it’s surprising how often someone will just give you the go ahead if it’s a small student project. Give it a shot and keep us posted.

We just did a large government job and they were asking for E & O. After some research, we determined that E&O insurance covers the transfer of “rights” of intellectual property. Anyone selling a movie or a video for distribution needs to have E&O. the insurance premium is usually based on the amount of the transaction. We would have had to buy insurance based on our annual income which was substantially higher than the one single job. It seems that if we were writing the scripts, we needed it. If not, we didn’t need it. We weren’t, so we didn’t. Got it?

We actually bought a url with plans to do exactly that. We are now addressing the legal issues so that the people who stole from us in the first place, can’t come back and finish us off.
While we’re talking about it, has anyone dealt with this?

It’s a wonderful thing. Much faster than the camera and it frees your camera up for things like “shooting”. Now ain’t that cool??

We stock those small 160Gb Western Digital USB drives that we can now buy for around $60. We have the Sony USB express card drive and transfer during the shoot using a MacBook Pro. After we’re done, we dump the last card and they’re off and running. We simply charge for the drive like we used to charge for tapes.
Most often, we have then bring a drive with them. We transfer the entire BPAV folders and it’s their baby. Sometimes we arrange to leave a copy on our hard drive for 72 hours. Only once have we had to save someone with our backup. It was a $7500 wedding that we rented two EX-1s for and the guy dropped his hard drive, from about 6″ off the table. We had just called him to let him know we were just about to delete his files when he started screaming. He dropped the drive when he was answering the phone.
In the past, I had my doubts about having a client’s footage but it saved his bacon.

You need to make sure that your focal length (zoom) is set to the same position for everything. Normally, we would start at 50mm on a 2/3″ camera. not sure about others.

1. Don’t really remember but I thought it was the forward position.
2. Zebra two is set to 100% as a safety measure. On all of our cameras, we set zebra 1 at 75% for caucasion skin.

You could do a test. Shoot something at both formats and see what the workflow is. If the old stuff upconverts to 1080 quick and seemlessly, shooting the new stuff in 1080 is a good idea. If it requires a lot of work, shoot the new the same as the old and it all just falls together.
Some people (and JVC is betting the bank on this) feel that the 720p image is more pleasing. We would be hard pressed to find anyone outside of us who can tell the difference and most us can’t either.

OUCH! Being more mature does not make one “OLD”. Even though you didn’t mean “old” in that way, it’s still a word with a razor’s edge. Back in the day, we were instructed to not trust anyone over 30. These days, I don’t trust anyone under 30.
