I’d consider doing that frame-by-frame. Each frame or segment might be achieved with block dissolve, card dance, or just cut up shots.

You can do such a quick effect manually, frame-by-frame while the other guys are still looking for a one-plugin solution. 🙂

The CC effects don’t come with educational versions, if I recall.

Do you have the Turbulent Displace effect?

I’ve found that if you combine effects to make a kind of “not there” to “there” effect, it’s, well, effective. Examples would be:
    – blurry to sharp
    – transparent to opaque
    – blown out (white) to normal
    – turb. displaced to not turb. displaced

Combine those to get a transition you like. Add some particles if you like.

You can’t do it without buying a plugin. Consider Zaxwerks 3D Layer (?) or Forge Freeform, if it’s still available.

I can’t see the video, but if you search the COW for “gnarls” you might find something.

AE doesn’t like interframe-compressed formats such as MPEG-types and other delivery formats. Use the formats I mentioned.

Render to a still sequence. When the box quits after doing frame 351, start up the render again at frame 352. When done, import the sequence back into AE for a quick conversion to another format if you want.

Go to the Secret prefs and purge RAM every 5-15 frames or so. When accessing the prefs>general, hold down the shift key until you see the big Prefs Drop-down menu. Then look for Secret at the bottom. Monitor your RAM usage as it renders.
